Fiber & Flora is a beautiful way to bring nature back into your home!
Judging from the amount of times I get asked about this, I think it's about time we explored adding beads to weaves! My first thought was, sounds easy enough. I picked out some cute coral-like beads with a weave design in mind and then I attempted the weave...twice! It turns out adding beads wasn't as easy
While looking over some old books I came across the twining weave and wanted to try it out. Twining is a process of interlacing strands to make twine, but you can also use this technique to make a weave pattern. I made a basic double side-by-side twining weave and then I tried a single twining
Having been brought up in a very rural setting, I chose a career in horticulture however sculptural work using natural materials has become a very important part of my life over the last 20 years. I use willow as well as other natural materials such as hazel, bramble, wild clematis, iris leaves, New Zealand flax, dogwoods, etc… More recently… Read

Woolen creation made entirely by hand with only luxurious wools such as virgin wool, alpaca roving wool, roving wool and merino wool. I also used natural fibers like raffia, linen and hemp. The desire to bring movement into this weaving, always a wild and authentic side. A subtle blend of raw and soft materials. In order to bring light to this creation, I applied gold-plated leaf to the heart 🌟 His name: THE WOOLED WILD KING Dimensions: 1.20*1.50 m Unique piece made with care and love 💕
Fiber & Flora is a beautiful way to bring nature back into your home! I collect delightful local growing flowers, grass and plants to hand weave them into one of a kind pieces that will last forever. Each piece is unique in flora, colour and design as I always try to match the feeling the natural plants give to immortalise them in the most natural possible way. I use only natural fibres such as mohair, cotton, linen and wool to best blend in with the flora. This delicate subtle green and yellow detail weave with flowers and grass comes from Uithoorn, the Netherlands. Each piece comes with a handwritten label on all information about the weave, from where the flora comes from to the natural fibers used. The size of this piece is : 15 x 41 cm The natural flora will eventually dry out, but remain beautiful and in position!

From a single dandelion or bindweed, Suzie Grieve weaves minuscule baskets, pouches, and other wearables that are smaller than the tip of her finger. The braided vessels are the result of a lengthy, holistic process that extends from foraging the wild fibers to twisting the processed cords into durable little containers. Whether striped, checkered, or coiled in rows, each basket is a testament to Grieve’s patience and ability to adapt a traditional craft into an unusually tiny form. More
Last Saturday, I finally tried something that I've been curious about: pin weaving!
Recently I was asked about how to weave a Monk's Cloth on a lap loom. My first thought was, what even is a monk's cloth?! I have never heard of this before and of course I had to look into it. It turns out a Monk's Cloth is a basket woven cloth that was used
"Dungeness Beach" Woven Wall Hanging This is a soft and natural weaving handwoven on a traditional wooden frame loom using natural wool, organic hemp, cotton and wild eri and tassar silk. Hung on a driftwood frame. This beautiful weave is inspired by the stark, windswept and vast shingle beach at Dungeness in Kent, UK, captured on a bright Autumnal day. The beach is strewn with shells, driftwood and flotsam and scattered with ragged weeds and grasses in shades of dust and fawn. It measures 25cm / 10in x 58cm / 23in including the fringe and driftwood frame. It comes ready to hang.

Branch weaving wall hanging is woven with both Romney and Icelandic wool. All wool is sourced from all of the sheep we raise on our farm. Weaving features a variety of textures with the weft including yarn, hand spun yarn and roving. Wool raised and crafted with care and love. All Wild Lea Farm products are created with love from the Wild Lea Shepherdess, me (Lexi). My partner and I started our farm in 2017 and we are a grass fed, pasture raised livestock farm on approximately 30 acres in the Hudson Valley. Our flock consists of both Romney and Icelandic sheep and Kiko cross goats who are out roaming the hills as long as the weather permits. We hold high regards to animal welfare, ecological consciousness and land regeneration.

Now Stinging nettles are one of my favourite plants that are utilized in many ways here. Most importantly its one of the biodynamic compost plants along with its use in the chooks mash. I also use it like spinach, herb tea, green pasta to mention a few. Stinging nettles (Urtica dioica)is a herbaceous perennial growing to 1.5mt, with coarsely toothed leaves. They can be cut several times in a growing season. They can become invasive and should not be planted near paths. So back to its use as a fibre .I decide to prepare some to make string, after researching the method I modified it a bit and this is what I came up with. 1. Choose the tallest nettles, ours grow to about 1.5 mt but the ones I used where a little under 1 mt. Cut nettles off at the base (best to wear gloves) 2. Starting from the bottom run your hand to the top removing the leaves. (use these to make some liquid fertilizer) Run it up the stem a couple more times to remove the hairs.(the bits that sting) 3. Each stem is hollow in the centre like a tube, except at the nodes where the leaves grow. The part you want is the outside ‘bark’ so now put the stems through your pasta rollers. You can adjust the width to suit the stems. Put them through once then tighten the rollers and put them through again. (you can do several at once) 4. The tube-like structure of the stem is now flattened and on the inside of the Nettle the harder woody material and the outside of the nettle have separated it is now easy to separate off the soft bark and woody material. 5. The soft material then can be separated into 3 or 4 strand and hung up to dry 6. To use for string, lightly damp and twist away.
If you've seen my woven art before, you know I like to use the pile weave from time to time. For those that are new to weaving, the pile weave is woven loops. It's one of my favorite ways to add texture and dimension to my weaves. I especially love how flexible the loops are.

Now that is completed we are moving onto the walls of your basket. The upright parts of a basket are called the stakes, we are going to place these in now. Get the 15 lengths of thicker brambles, you’ll still need the tops to be flexible as you’ll be weaving your border with these later.
