This project was originally created with a colleague for a Religious Education activity, but this can so easily fit science curriculums as well! Materials: Construction paper - black, brown, green, Glue stick, Scissors, Pencils, Black marker Instructions: 1. Have students select a piece of construction paper to use as the background colour and lay it aside - We chose black to make the tree stand out - dark blue would also look great! 2. Ask students to trace an outline of their hand on brown construction paper, cut out the outline, and lay it aside - This will make the trunk of the tree 3. Ask students to draw and cut out different sized hearts on green construction paper - This will make the leaves of the tree 4. Have students glue their hand outline at the centre of the bottom of the page to create the tree trunk 5. Have students glue the hearts around the fingers of the hand outline to create the leaves of the tree 6. Allow the glue to dry, then ask students to write "I care for the environment by..." on the trunk of the tree, and ways they care for the environment on the leaves of the tree. - Have students write their ideas in pencil first and then outline in a thin black marker That's it! This makes a great piece of work for students to post on a wall in the classroom and gets them brainstorming about ways they can contribute to helping the environment!

Cleaning Record - Editable Document for OSHC, Child Care and Early Years Centres With the National Quality Standards, increasing Safe Food Handling Guidelines and hygiene guidelines becoming tighter on Out of School Hours Care (OSHC), OOSH, Child Care and Vacation Care facilities, we are increasingly looking for an easy way to record, monitor and track these activities to ensure it is all completed. This is a cleaning record that we have developed in our centre to remind staff of their expectations in regards to cleaning tasks, keep record of refrigerator and freezer temperatures, and set plan for quarterly planning tasks. One sheet is for daily and weekly tasks, and temperatures including sanitising food preparation surfaces, cleaning the fridge and checking used by dates on food. The second sheet is quarterly cleaning roster planning the cleaning of items and activities in the centre over a ten-week school term length period. These items are ones that don’t require weekly cleaning including things like Lego, Dress Up Clothing and Play dough tools. By having a schedule for these tasks and a record of when they have occurred when can keep up with all areas of our centre. The document is fully editable Microsoft word document so you can change, modify, add and subtract cleaning tasks that are or aren’t specific to your centre. You can then print multiple copies for each week or term. The document includes the two pages of rosters, a copy of those pages with using them notations and a copy of the pages with notations about what was expected for tasks. Its a great step to your Quality Improvement Plan. Did you enjoy playing with those balancing bird toys (aff link) as a kid? Well, if you did, today's origami project will be highly satisfying. We're balancing a piece of paper on our hands... using the power of origami! Fold and then place your creation on your finger. It will balance, rock back and forth, and even turn... without falling! How to Fold Balancing, Rocking, and Turning Origami! This post contains affiliate links. This means I make a small bit of money for any purchases made through the links at no additional cost to you. Thank you for your support. For my full disclosure policy, click here. Today's tutorial comes from the book Folding for Fun: Origami for ages 4 and up. It contains quite a few simple projects that even beginners can do. Materials Needed: Computer Paper Scissors Markers How to Fold Balancing Origami 1. Cut out a strip of paper 1 1/2" x 11" (Along the length of your computer paper.) 2. Optional: Decorate one side of your paper now (Or you can decorate if once you've folded.) 3. Fold your paper in half lengthwise. (Decorated side out if you decorated it) 4. Open up your fold. Then, fold it in half again like a book (decorated side in) 5. Fold down the upper left corner of your paper to the middle line. Then, unfold it. (This will create a crease to help with the next squash fold.) 6. Then, fold your paper like this and squash it down! 7. Flip your paper over. Repeat steps 5 and 6 with the other side. 8. Rotate your origami so it looks like this. 9. Fold down your "wings" so they are behind the body. 10. Then, unfold your wings so they are back where they started. (This will create a crease to help with the final squash folds.) 11. Push down on the center of one "wing" and then fold it so the center crease becomes a valley fold. 12. Repeat for the other side. Your origami should look like this from the middle. 13. Fold down the flaps of your wings on both sides. (4x in total for both sides of each wing) And now... balance it! You got it!
