This Unique Folk Vest is hand-knitted with natural sheep wool. The handmade embroidery is designed according to ancient Bulgarian traditions in clothing decoration. Design WV1 Yarns used: Body -100% Undyed sheep wool - ecru. The embroidery is made with acrylic yarn in solid, bright and resistant colors. The wool yarn is hand pre-washed and softened before knitting. Since the wool is undyed, and we buy small lots from local sheep farms, it is possible your order to be prepared with a little bit darker or lighter yarn. The red crochet finish is made with acrylic yarn so as to protect your skin from the natural wool yarn, which some people find itchy. The red colour varies in 1-2 tones and it is possible your order to be with a little bit darker or brighter than the pictured red tone. Buttons - high quality plastic, horn imitation, beige. Embroidery on knit and crochet in a few easy steps
I have been working with intensity on my piece for Wild Pure Aesthetic Wonder. I've named the one panel I'm focusing on Beginning With Time. (continued from here) The size has increased and I am glad that I can no longer touch the edges. I used borders to achieve the increase in scale but now have some design challenges and not much time left before I have to ship the panel to Newfoundland. I am loving the process. Ordered seed stitch. Accumulation. I hope that what my work communicates is the quiet joy of making and at the same time the feeling that we are each just a tiny speck. go slow....stop thinking.....look around Van Gogh

When I was in St. Louis a few weeks back, my husband and I had brunch with a friend at the most delightful restaurant called Tree House. It's a vegetarian restaurant and the food is amazing. If you are ever in St. Louis, by all means, make your way over for a meal. You won't be disappointed. Our waitress that morning was so delightful, and as it turns out, quite creative. She loves taking old pieces and giving them new life. She was wearing a vintage silk top that had a hole in it when she found it. Rather than pass the piece by, she purchased the top and then did the sweetest little applique over the hole and added an embroidered spider web over the applique. I wish I had taken a picture. With that in mind, I decided to check out mending on Pinterest and I found a few inspirational pictures that I thought you might also enjoy. If you're in the mood, just search visible mending. You'll find lots of interesting ideas. So here's a few that I found, I love how a hole was turned into a window in the 2 pieces below. Another window idea, but with lace. The next 2 pieces are from an amazing artist, Lou Tonkin. She does needle felting over holes. Beautiful work. If you think you might like to give needle felting a try and do a little mending, or just add a sweet touch to a garment, check out THIS POST. Even just a simple little touch can save a garment and add interest. I may be showing my age, but I am not a fan of the ripped up jean look. The Japanese have such a beautiful art form called Boro where garments are pieced and saved, but no holes are left open. I thought this was rather fun, adding the British flag in a subtle manner. Rather than discard a garment because the sleeves are worn, a touch of embroidery will make a worn garment so special. I loved how this artist took a striped denim and matched the mend with plain denim and white thread. A beautiful touch of Boro on this pair of jeans. You can find more of this artist's work at Woman With Wings. Amy Meissner is another textile artist that you might want to check out. Very interesting work. And finally, for a little peek into my hippy personality ;), a pair of jeans that I actually wear. It all began with a hole that I decided to cover with a patch.....and then I went crazy! So now you see, patching no longer needs to be what your mother did to save the life of a pair of pants by ironing a patch over the knees. Happy Monday! Rhonda

I finished it yesterday- close up of 'grasses by the canal' 11cm x 31cm. Paint and dye on calico. Hand stitched. 3 layers of fabric. Whole thing- but long and thin so difficult for photos. I tried to capture the bright light of summer and dappled shadows - something to work on ( next time, next time) I am pleased with it but always there is knowledge that it could be better and that is the drive that keeps me working! Hot summer days here- no rain for the garden. Meals eaten outside on the new patio under the parasol. Summer clothes. We are not used to this!

did you know it is eight years since i started tippity tapping away here on my shiny happy place. i went way back and found my first post. i really truly had no idea what i was doing, nor where i was going and those were perhaps the happiest times of my rambling blogging journey. and it is without doubt, if it were not for my blog and you dearest readers i would not have done so many wonderful things, met so many wonderful peachy dearies and grown in so many wonderful ways. i spent many happy times, regaling whoever may happen to wish to read, clan moments, critter moments, crafty moments, thrifting moments and any other moments that i chose to share. and it goes without saying, there have been many other moments i did not share. some pants, some peachy. gosh this does sound like it is turning into a farewell swan song, which is not my intention, for this is written not with sadness but happiness in my heart. i am happy to be leaving this lovely shiny place just as it is, for anyone who may care to visit or stumble upon me. however i have decided it is time to retire my blogging hat, carefully placing it back in my kitchen drawer and to continue treading the path i have started out upon in recent times. you will find me happily woolly tattooing and making little knits in preparation for my online 'atelier of sorts for small beings & grown~ups' opening later in the year. i will of course still be found over on facebook as and when nitty gritty things and photos need to be shared and you will find me daily in my happy place over on instagram. in a few months i have high hopes my new shiny online home will be all set up, a place for folks to visit and see what handmade wares i have for sale, all made slowly, with beautiful yarns and vintage materials. in my head i am seeing it as a happy heirloom collection of sorts and in my hands, those thoughts are slowly but surely coming together and so before i close the final floral curtain upon this rambling and at times, bumbling stage, can i just say, i have been nothing but humbled by the kindness of others who came through the life i shared for the past 8 years. you shared my laughter, you shared my joy, you shared my pain and you shared my tears. how truly lucky am i in life to have had all this and more. and if this is it, if this is as good as it gets, then that is a~okay with me. for i have been blessed, and i will never feel quite so loved again and okay to be me, as the times i rambled on here and you choose to listen. thank you, thank you kindly dearest readers, old ones, new ones, furry ones and fruity cake ones. it may look like the end, but i assure you, it is not it truly really is not. the end this is just the beginning ...
Ana Teresa Barboza creates poignant vignettes using an unlikely combination of thread, photo transfer and graphite on canvas. Focusing on isolated, nude subjects, Barboza uses the embroidery aspect of her work to describe the characters' inner pain. They pull on the threads, exposing their internal organs with contemplative gazes. The embroidered entrails create rich patterns that complement the baroque flourishes Barboza uses for her backgrounds. Take a look at some of her work after the jump.
