Although fashion did not embrace the look of trousers on the female form until the late 20th century, history saw working women wearing them a hundred years prior. From Victorian coal miners who rolled up their skirts around their waist to reveal soot-covered pants underneath to today’s terrible backlash of factory-torn denim, spandex jeggings, and bedazzled bums, women’s pants have undergone quite a transformation. Let’s take a look at the early fashion of women’s pants from the festooned Victorian era right on through to the ultra glamorous 1930s. Thursday 17th Jan I found something which made me quite happy :D - after viewing so many old and fantastic historic black and white photos and postcards on flickr both studio and casual of soldiers actors ladies gents children etc from around the Victorian period up to the first and second world wars I came across in the Oxfam charity shop in Twickenham this photo cum postcard of an attractive young girl whom a member of staf advised me was a lady who lived locally in Twickenham until her death sadly last year that she was a nurse and that there was also a photo of her husband in army uniform which may have their name on it Becky the manageress saying that if she was able to find out more she would pass it on to me which needless to say would be brilliant Here's hoping :) On the back of the framed photograph is the following The Studio - Jones Bros - Dragley Beck Lane and Ulverston On her red cross type arm band I could see 4 letters U S top left and bottom left and looks like H and possibly P top right and bottom right of the cross Had a quick look on google and discovered that Dragley Beck was in Ulverston the birthplace of comic genius Stan Laurel - Festival Town and Historic Market Town in Cumbria North West England which is a long way from London and that prehaps the initails at a guess may stand for Ulverston Hospital Sister something or similar ?
