About A unique, material-driven sculptural chair by Ian Spencer and Cairn Young of Yard Sale Project, Black Tongue explores unprecedented forms in wood. The wood is finished using the shou-sugiban method, an ancient Japanese finishing technique that preserves wood by charring it with fire. In addition to being aesthetically striking and elegant, the chaise is rot, pest, weather, UV light, and fire resistant. At once inspired by and made to support the human form, the French walnut hand-carved chair evokes a sleek, curving body. The chaise’s smooth surface highlights the wood’s natural grain, reflecting light to reveal the wood’s beautiful, organic imperfections.

Polianthes 'Pink Sapphire' is an incredibly exciting breakthrough in tuberose breeding from Huang Kuang-Liang at Taiwan's Taipei University. By crossing the florist Polianthes tuberosa with the hardier Mexican Polianthes howardii, Huang was able to develop a hardier tuberose strain with both fragrance and color. Polianthes 'Pink Sapphire', which has been superb in our trials, produces 3' tall stalks of fragrant, double pink flowers from late July until frost...simply amazing!
Several years ago, we received plants from India as Colocasia antiquorum. One exceptional clone was subsequently christened Colocasia 'Coal Miner' and became a 2007 Plant Delights/JLBG introduction. In appearance, Colocasia 'Coal Miner' looks like a larger version of Colocasia 'Illustris' except for emerging 2 months earlier (late March in NC), and not spreading underground as vigorously as Colocasia 'Illustris'. The black leaf pattern is similar to Colocasia 'Illustris', but the background leaf color is quite different (dark olive vs. medium green) and the emerging new leaves have a stunning velvet patina. For us, Colocasia 'Coal Miner' tops out at 54" tall, while Colocasia 'Illustris' only reaches 40". I think you will agree that Colocasia 'Coal Miner' is worth excavating a new hole.
