Schools -- and policymakers -- have for too long accepted the belief that learning best occurs while students are seated (and quiet, of course). The theory may have been understandable back when they didn't have the research to prove otherwise. But today we do.

LOS VERBOS “Yo tengo... ¿Quién tiene...?” "Yo tengo... ¿Quién tiene...?" - Games can be used as a playful and practical support for learning and training new vocabulary. Each pupil receives a card (if there are more cards than pupils, some pupils receive 2 cards). The pupil with the "start" card begins and asks: "Quién tiene...?". The pupil with the correct vocabulary card answers "Yo tengo... ¿" followed by the question "Quién tiene...?". If there are more students than cards, I recommend dividing the students into 2 groups and playing the game with each group separately. As an extra motivation, the groups can compete against each other by having the teacher stop the time. The game is ideal as a warm up game or to end the lesson. Simply print the cards, laminate them and then cut them out.

The Kirkley & Sons Yo-Yo is a fixed axle yo-yo with a 50/50 cotton/polyester string. The body of the yo-yo is 3D printed, and the axle is plain steel. It comes in a large variety of colors, and can be two-toned as well! It ships with the string single-looped on the axle to be unresponsive, but a double loop around the axle will make the yo-yo responsive, which is great for learning to throw. The Yo-Yo is 2.25" in diameter, and about 1.125" wide. It weighs 1.5 ounces including the string (0.1 ounce) The string is a standard yo-yo string and is about 3 feet long. If needed (especially for children), you can reduce the length of your string by following this helpful video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H8hYygNwoq0 Color Choices: The following is a list of color options. Please note that these colors can be combined to make a two-toned Yo-Yo, in which you can have one side be one color, and the other side be another; Red, Orange, Yellow, Green, Teal, Blue, Purple, Pink, Black and White. For adding multiple Yo-Yos of different color combinations, you'll have to do them one at a time. So for example if you want to order one fully yellow Yo-Yo and one that has purple for one side and pink for another, you'd need to add one with yellow selected for both Primary and Secondary, then go back to the listing and add another with purple for the Primary and pink for the Secondary. This post is part of a series, 31 Days of Spanish Books for Kids. Please click HERE for the complete list of posts. {Each of these posts contain affiliate links. Thanks for supporting this blog!} There are very few books out there in Spanish that I have run across that focus on emotions, but recently I found Así me siento yo , which presents several emotions in a great format! The book has a rhyme for each of the emotions covered. Each rhyme describes a situation that elicits an emotional response. I love the artwork in this book as the colors and scenes really portray the emotions that are being talked about. Even when my students don't know the Spanish word many times they can guess the feeling by looking at the illustrations. Besides the very familiar emotions of happiness and sadness the book covers the following: tonto, asustado, resentido, enojado, agradecido, frustrado, timido, aburrido, emocionado, celoso, and orgulloso. I will be using this book to introduce emotions and to teach the verbs "estar" and "sentirse". For more ideas on teaching emotions, see this post on teaching emotions with ping pong balls.

I’ve seen a lot of posts recently by teachers that are teaching novels for their classes and feeling like it is not going well. In many ways, teaching a novel as a unit is easy: most publishing companies have provided very complete Teacher’s Guides for their novels, and a teacher simply needs to use the resources…
