Some people don't understand my love for books and language, but to me words are some of the most important things we have. Words are beautiful, because they represent beautiful, powerful things. If you can hear a word and see it's meaning appear right there in front of you, that's something magical. If you can use a word to convey something you can't quite explain, that's a connection. These words do that.
If you're making mistakes it means you're out there doing something
Let me tell you something you already know. The world ain’t all sunshine and rainbows. It is a very mean and nasty place and it will beat you to your knees and keep you there
What is worst than forgetting something is when you don’t even remember what the term itself is. This state is what we call… It’s called… Ugh! What’s that word again? Hah! Lethologica. It describes the state of not being able to remember the word you want. It is said that it was first identified as a serious debilitating disorder by Swiss psychiatrist Carl Jung in the year 1913 in his The Psychology of the Unconscious (Wandlungen und Symbole der Libido). Well that’s frustration indeed. Before you can even blurt out the right term, you have wasted countless seconds filling it with “um”, “ah”, “hm”, and all the whatnot dead-air fillers. Also, it may lead you to an obsession with trying to recall the term. This is called, take a deep breath to remember, loganamnosis. It sounded like Agnosia, right? But no, it isn’t. Lethologica is different from agnosia in a way that the former is defined as the loss of ability to recognize objects, persons, sounds, shapes, or smells while specific sense is not defective nor is there any significant memory loss. It befalls when the occiptotemporal border, which is a part of the ventral stream is being damaged either by brain injury or neurological illness. Countless of types goes under agnosia and some are listed below: Akinetopsia. This is the inability to perceive visual motion. Take for example, a flipping rotating case stand to their eyes is like it sits steadily where it is placed. Most of the time, they get surprised on how such a thing moved from a place to another. Apperceptive visual agnosia. If the first cannot perceive motion, this one cannot perceive the object itself. They have troubles in recognizing, copying, or discriminating between different visual stimula. Associative visual agnosia. With this state, patients can describe visual scenes and classes of objects by their use or to where they are in need of. Yet still they fail to recognize the object. An instance would be a cellphone case. They may know that it is used to for protection but may mistake it as screen protecter. Prosopagnosia. This is also known as faceblindness and facial agnosia in which patients are unable to recognize familiar faces, sometimes even their own and it is oftentimes misperceived as being unable to remember names. Pain agnosia. This is the inability to perceive and process pain. It may seem good in a way that you’ll have a free-pain life yet pain is what makes you feel more human. Now that we have classified Lethologica from Agnosia, let’s delve in deeper to the real topic. Stress, physcal fitness, social interaction, and base memory capacity are factors where Lethologica’s severity is dependent to. It is also believed that Marijuana (cannabis) instigates Lethologica by cause of CB1 receptors reacting to the brain, and may even still take effect after prolonged discontinuation of Marijuana. It is said that Lethologica afflicts in a manner almost opposite to that of other memory disorders such as Alzheimer’s disease or other forms of dementia. Constantin von Monakow, a Swiss neurologist and psychiatrist, described a triad of findings that serves as an aid in the diagnosis. 2 or 3 must be present in order to make the diagnosis: Disordered pharyngeal phase of swallowing Increased tone in upper limb muscle groups, excacerbated when attempting to remember specific words Recurrent inappropriate gestures while attempting to remember particular words Hoping there’s a treatment? Unfortunately there aren’t any effective treatments yet. Although there’s a potential treatment called electroconvulsive theraphy (ETC) for this pervasive disorder.
Why the fuck people brag about how “busy” they are baffles me. “Busy” literally means nothing to anyone except you. When I hear someone say: “(OVER DRAMATIC SIGH) Oh I'm soooo busy” in a overstressed tone...I automatically think they are unorganized, inefficient, ineffective...and mentally soft. Shit, if they were effective, they’d have something better to brag about. Listen... It's not about your hopes. It's not about your dreams. it's not about your wishes. It's not about what's fair. It's not about how things “should” be. It's not about how hard you work. It's not about how many emails you send. It's not about how many calls you make. It's not about how many doors you knock on. It's not about how hard you try. It's not about what you say you're going to do. It's not about how hard it is. It's not about how “busy” you are. IT'S ALL ABOUT THE RESULT YOU PRODUCE. The world rewards results. Period. EFFECTIVE > BUSY Get it done. —Andy
