My Body is a Temple Charades First have everyone share what their favorite temple is and why. Talk about how they felt if they've been to one, or what they remember if they have been lucky enough to go to an open house. Then you can explain to them that even though temples are all different, each is a House of God. Share this scripture: 1 Corinthians 3:16–17 [1 Cor. 3:16–17]: “Know ye not that ye are the temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwelleth in you?“If any man defile the temple of God, him shall God destroy; for the temple of God is holy, which temple ye are.” Have the girls pick a charade card out of a bag or box and act out what is on the card for everyone else to guess. Once all the cards have been guessed, you'll have covered these principles on keeping our bodies like a temple (some of which are gospel standards) Give each of the girls one of these hand-outs with the following quote: Even though each temple looks different, all are beautiful and are built for the same purpose. They are buildings where special ordinances take place that are needed for us to return to Heavenly Father. You are like a temple. You are different from everyone else, but you too are a house for the Spirit of God—the Holy Ghost. Your body is a temple for your spirit. Vicki F. Matsumori Also give them a "Future Temple Recommend" that they can sign their name to.
This month the Come, Follow Me topic for the Youth is The Plan of Salvation. As I was reading through the outlines for this month, I immediately had an idea for the lesson "Why should I treat my body like a temple?" found here. I like to include a little something fun to eat with my handouts and it only took a minute to come up with a little play on words for the lesson: My body is a "sweet" gift from Heavenly Father and I should "treat" it like a temple . . . And it just so happens that Hershey's Miniatures are perfect building blocks for the temple as well as a "sweet treat"! I made some candy bar wrappers and labeled each with a reason we should treat our body like a temple. I found the reasons from the lesson outline as well as a talk by Sister Susan W. Tanner. You can find her talk here. When the handout was complete each block of the temple completed the sentence at the top of the handout: My body is a "sweet" gift from Heavenly Father and I should "treat" it like a temple . . . . . . because my body is God's sacred creation! . . . because my body houses my spirit! . . . and I will receive blessings! . . . and if I live worthily my body can one day be sanctified and exalted! I think that the handout turned out pretty cute! You can view and download a copy of the handout here. You can also view and download a copy of the candy bar wrappers here. Enjoy!
OBJECTIVE: Read the true stories* about prayer to help the youth know they don’t need to be by their bedside to pray; they can pray anytime and anywhere to seek Heavenly Father’s guidance. ACTIVITY: Assign the stories to youth or youth leaders to read or tell in their own words. Have a youth from each class post the matching picture on the storyboard before the story is told. *PRAYER STORIES. A reminder to embrace our curves and our body as imperfect as it is, and not as any perfect image we would love to get to because of an ex...
It's not been an easy road these past few weeks. I've been neglecting my weight loss blog and keeping people updated. It's not because I haven't wanted to post, I've just been avoiding what I wanted to say about things. As of lately I've been really struggling with myself and how I feel about my body. After realizing that is one thing I do struggle with the most, I decided that it was time to stop the negative thinking and change it to positive thinking. I've read plenty of health affirmations that are guided to keep my on track and feeling positive. I've been looking at positive posts from other weight loss blogs. I've even been talking with my friends and my family about what I want to do and my goals for fitness. The truth is, that even after all that the struggle is real. It's not something that I can change over night, and I know that. I just have to remember that I can't give up and there is hope as long as I keep up with things and keep myself going. One of the things I've noticed is helping is that I pick out the outfit I want to wear for the next day. That day that I put it on, if I'm worried at all about how I look; I remind myself that I am beautiful and look amazing. I'm able to talk myself out of changing into something else (more than one wardrobe change happens sometimes), and kept on with what I was wearing. This seems to be helping. Every time I look in my fridge or pantry, I remind myself that my body is a temple and what I put in it, is also what I get out of it. The more negative, bad crap foods I eat, the worse I will feel. The better I eat, the better I feel. I've been trying to eat veggies and fruits more, but I could still stand to eat more of them. Thanks to my friend Kiki, I remembered how much I love ants on a log as a healthy snack. After all, it's just some peanut butter, raisins, and celery. Can't go wrong there. I'm also trying to remind myself that I can and will love my body as it changes. There's nothing negative about losing weight and being healthy. All it will create is a happier and healthier me, and I see nothing wrong with that. It's a struggle to stay positive during weight loss and love the body as it changes, but I am trying. All I can do is try, and not give up. What do you do to love your body?
