We all know those baby animals are so cute they make us squeal and babble when we see them, but what exactly makes an animal adorable? Well, it might be the fact that they are usually perfectly round and extra fluffy and humans associate these traits with the animals being friendly and harmless. Yes, it may sound weird, but to us, humans, round objects evoke exactly those feelings. It also might be that cute baby animals are helpless, thus making us want to take care of them. Also, combine that with their dewy-eyes and silly demeanor, and voila, cuteness overload, erasing our capabilities of reasoning, happens. And while losing your senses might not be the best idea, everyone should allow themselves to go a bit bonkers for these adorable animals. That's why we have compiled a list of the cutest baby animals, that will make your heart and brains melt in the best way possible.

In all the time we humans have been discovering and describing the world around us, we've only just scratched the surface. In fact, scientists have estimated that there are about 8.7 million species of plants and animals in existence, however, only around 1.2 million of them have been identified and described so far (most of which are insects). This means that millions of other organisms remain a complete mystery.

Today, April 7th is International Beaver Day. Although not endangered, this small animal plays an important role in maintaining local ecosystems. Sometimes referred to as nature's engineers, the benefits of having local beavers are many: their ponds "increase stream flows in seasonally dry streams by storing run-off in the rainy season," the cute beaver workers help waterfowl "by creating increased areas of water," and they even help to restore streams! In fact, 600 beavers put to work by the US government in the 1930s to stop soil erosion by streams in Oregon were so effective, that it was estimated each of the adorable animals completed work worth $300!
These guys like tropical and subtropical climates. They get bigger than most other eagles. This particular one, a male, weighs about 10 pounds. He's a growing boy, and already dwarfs your typical American bald eagle national icon thing. He swallows rats whole at feeding time. That's the keeper's forearm he's sitting on with those BIG ASS talons. These guys were practically extinct but they've been bred and released into the wild, and now they're making a comeback. L.A. Partakorppikotkat vainottiin 1800-luvulla lähes sukupuuttoon Euroopan vuoristoseuduilta, koska niiden uskottiin pyydystävän jopa lapsia. Lajia on palautettu luontoon jo 20 vuoden ajan. Lähes sata vapautettua tarhalintua on kasvattanut siivilleen jo muutamia kymmeniä jälkeläisiä. Myös Korkeasaaren eläintarha on osallistunut partakorppikotkien luontoonpalautukseen.
