Ellen Quandelacy was a master of many art forms - inlay, silverwork, and carving. She is considered one of the great mid-century carvers and her carvings are highly prized. Her horse fetishes are very beloved by collectors. This necklace features 11 of her horses in very beautiful, bright colors. Her use of different stones and carving style gives the horses personalities, along with some anatomically correct details. These particular carvings are large and also feature dots on the horses' rear that denotes gender - 1 dot for males, 2 dots for females. Her carvings and necklaces become rarer each year. Presenting my original canvas painting, ZUNI ELDER. The canvas is 14 x 11 inches. The Zuni people, like other Pueblo Indians, are believed to be the descendants of the Ancient Puebloans who lived in the desert Southwest of New Mexico, Arizona, Southern Colorado and Utah for a thousand years. Today the Zuni Pueblo, some 35 miles south of Gallup, New Mexico has a population of about 6,000. Archeological evidence shows they have lived in this location for about 1,300 years. The canvas is 100% cotton duck, stretched on a 5/8 inch wood frame. The canvas was base-coated with archival quality, acid-free, ph-balanced acrylic gesso. The painting can be framed in a black floater frame, as shown on other listings, for an additional $75. Contact me if you'd like it framed, wired, and ready to hang. The painting was inspired by a photo by Edward Curtis.

1885 Zuni Polychrome Historic Jar. This jar is an excellent example of early traditional Zuni pottery. The jar is made of native clay and fired traditionally out of doors in cedar wood and sheep manure. The design features the traditional drawing of heart-line deer in their houses separated by rows of spirit birds. Two side panels depict coiled versions of pahoes (prayer feathers) that are used in prayer ceremonies. The Zuni saw their water jars as prayer offerings to the spirits for rain and moisture in all its forms. Size: 12 1/2" Diameter by 11" Height Condition: Excellent, with no repairs or restoration Provenance: Erie County Historical Society of New York State
