Since ancient times, hearts have been used as a symbol to refer to the spiritual, emotional and moral core of a human being. Poetically used to refer to the soul, hearts are most commonly used as symbols representing love. The Celtic heart is among the most romantic of symbols, formed from one continuous line, representing the union of souls in a visual continuity, of continuing faith and love as one travels through the journey of life. Celtic knotwork can mean a number of things but mostly it means a never-ending cycle of rebirth and renewal. It means eternity. The design has no beginning and no end. When this is entwined with a heart it can mean eternal love and a union of souls. When two hearts are interwoven, they are joined forever. That is why they are also called love knots. The symbols and history of Ireland and Scotland have been around for thousands of years, long before St.Patrick came to Ireland and the Celtic Islands. Celtic designs are very rich in history and folklore. The early Celts left behind an enduring legacy of almost hypnotic knots, fierce beasties, and spirals, some of them drawn so finely that people called them "the work of angels". What they did not leave behind was a Rosetta stone, if you will, saying that one particular knot stood for strength and another one meant love, etc. Historians found that the Celts believed strongly in the interconnectedness of all life and that their interlaced patterns reflected this belief. The interlacing lines of the Celtic Knot stand for "NO BEGINNING, NO ENDING, THE CONTINUITY OF EVERLASTING LOVE AND BINDING TOGETHER INTERTWINING OF TWO SOULS OR SPIRITS." The Celts did not record the meanings behind the designs they recreated but scholarly speculation is that the symbols represented basic tenants of life, mankind, and spirituality. THE CONTINUAL LOOPING OF THE DESIGNS SUGGESTS THEMES OF ETERNITY AND INTERCONNECTEDNESS. THIS IS ONE OF A KIND ORIGINAL FRAMED HANDMADE ART HOME AND WALL DECORATION.
