There is not much information as to how the Icelandic bind off has got its name. Was it invented in Iceland? Or is it the bind off that Icelandic knitters use most often? I don’t know. But one thing is certain – this bind off is beautiful. It looks like a reversed stockinette i-cord sitting […]

Semele is a sideways, elegant, leafy lace shawl, knitted in one piece. You will want to knit more than one – the leaf pattern creates a nice rhythm that keeps your interest piqued. Size with two 50g skeins of Malabrigo Lace: 140 cm x 40 cm (56 in x 15 in) Size with 2 skeins of Fyberspates Scrumptious 4ply: 240 cm x 55 cm (95 in x 22 in) Semele looks equally good in a nice fingering yarn as in delicate lace. The knitting begins with a little quirk -- the first leaf is knit in the opposite direction for a nice tapering end, but everything is still in one piece. Weigh your yarn before beginning -- and start the second half when halfway through (or a little before, to be safe). This way you can adjust the size to the yarn you choose to knit with. The pattern is charted and also fully written out. Approx gauge: one border repeat is 9.5 cm (3.75 in) in 4ply. Gauge is not very important -- use any weight yarn you like. I love the look and feel of a badminton net, but I am not sure how I would crochet one myself. I was thinking of having a badminton net with a rice bowl as a center as I would like to play with the idea of how the net would look when it is in use. I would then want to crochet a pattern that would help me to make one and I could then use it as a pattern for the net to hang on a tree or stick on a wall.
