This weekend went by WAY too fast (as they tend to do during college, especially during the last two weeks!), but I'm proud to say I finished a sewing project!!! I've worked on a dress from the 1960's McCall's pattern #5517. This summer I made the jumper dress (which you can see styled here), and this semester I decided to tackle the wiggle dress. It was much more complicated simply because it requires a lot more fitting and pattern altering, not my strong area when it comes to sewing. I'm still learning a lot. However, though it's a bit more..... "pin-uppy" than I originally intended (for some reason it's a bit tighter than when I made my muslin.... I have no idea what happened...), it's completely wearable! I'll showcase it later this week, so come back to see more! I chose this type of dress because it's so versatile and classic. Although not always perfectly period-accurate, it can be styled to resemble almost any 20th century decade: (photos from here unless otherwise stated) 1920s Pair with a 1920s-style hat (bell, cloche, etc.), a baggier cardigan, finger waves and smudgy makeup Lois Wilson photo by Ray Jones 1930s Layer a blazer or long jacket over the top of the dress with a quirky 1930s hat, waist belt, soft fingerwaves, and some ladylike gloves! 1937 Dickins & Jones Ltd. 1940s This one's pretty easy because the wiggle dress has a similar silhouette. Pair it with a cute 1940s topper or tilt hat, an era hairdo (victory rolls, pin curls, or up-do), gloves, and some hot red lipstick. If you're feeling glamorous, add a fur stole or coat! Bonwit Teller Autumn- Winter 1941 "Smart Woman's Angle" 1950s This one is also a lot like a 1950s shape already, so it's all about accessories. A capelet, detachable collar, gloves, pearls, clutch, and feminine hat would make a perfect 1950s outfit! R & K Originals, 1957 1960s Obviously, this pattern comes from the 1960s.... so it will be easy to get this look! Pair the dress with some little gloves, a fun bouffant, chunky jewelry, and a pillbox hat for a look Jackie O. would be proud of! Peck and Peck 1960- photo by Maria Martel 1970s Wear the dress with some loud jewelry, wild platforms, and curl your hair into big Ferrah Fawcett waves. (Like the dress on the right.) from here

Simplicity 2178; ©1947; Junior Misses' and Misses' One-Piece Dress: The dart-fitted bodice features an extension at the front neck edge which is seamed to a sash. The bias cut skirt falls in an easy flare and joins to the bodice at the waistline. In Style I, the sash crosses in front and ties into a bow at the center back. Long sleeves finish the dress. A longer skirt is featured in Style I than in Style II. The sash, in Style II is twisted in front, crosses at the center back and ties into a kn
