Hand held, in less than ideal light conditions, and with an ISO heading towards four figures, but still this is a beautiful place and I really wanted a record of it on my stream. This is the amazing painted chamber of Lower Cockhill Farm, a humble mid-fifteenth century yeoman's farmhouse outside Castle Cary, Somerset. This room was added to the original house in about 1480 and is an evocative reminder of the richness of Medieval interiors. The carved timber work in the ceiling is of very fine quality, but the wall paintings utilize earth pigments and are a much more naive local expression. The suggestion is that because of the religious iconography used that this is a small private chapel or oratory. Rarely open it is really worth a diversion to take a look.
