Twitter I love winter as much as the next person, but there's something about an crisp autumn sunset that brings ease to the mind. Whether it's the contrast, the scent of newly lit fireplaces down city streets, the brisk chill in the air.. it's great! I decided to try this as an HDR, as the colors and sun provided a near perfect situation to attempt it. Now, whether or not the image is a perfect HDR, who cares.. It adds to the scene!
After spotting it on Pinterest last year, I knew I wanted to use this Emily Bronte quote on something this year. It speaks to exactly how I feel about Fall... source My husband grabbed a few pallets from a dumpster and he created the rectangle for me by removing the pallet planks and connecting them with 2 pieces of pallet wood across the back. We left the wood unpainted as I wanted the sign to feel weathered and rustic. Next, I created a graphic on Picmonkey of the quote. After that, I used Block Posters to enlarge the image. Both programs are user friendly and FREE!! To transfer the image onto the pallet, I covered the back of the paper with the printed image with white chalk. Make sure the whole surface is covered. Then, just place the graphic on the wood (chalk side facing wood) and trace over each letter with a pen (applying enough pressure so the chalk will stay). I was amazed at how well this worked. And how easy it was. I then went over the chalk writing with a Sharpie oil based paint pen. I used a leaf stencil to paint on the leaves and that was it. This was my very first pallet sign project, but it certainly won't be my last. I am planning another one for Christmas.

I love FALL activities!!! Here is one we did with our first graders! The pictures turned out sooooo sweet. THIS IS THE HALLWAY DISPLAY. So funny... each students' personality came out for this project!! Each student had to re-write the poem of the month. It was called Fall Leaves. I have included a close up of the poem and the book I used to get the idea. We took pictures of each student with a leaf on their head. After they wrote their poem they got leaves that the poem talked about.....1 orange, 2 brown, 3 yellow, 3 green, 2 red. They placed the leaves all over the matted poem. We studied this poem in morning meeting. We used math, sight words, rhyming, patterns and fluency!! All with one poem!!! They love it and I can hear them saying it to themselves all the time!!!Crystal Springs Book SO go get this book!!! Each poem is loaded with great ideas and even ones that you can add your own special touches to ( this idea was my own)!!! Happy Fall from Holly ONE of the Lemonade Stand Teachers
