Javelin was born during a very difficult time. On February 24th, 2022 Russia attacked Ukraine and the world as I knew it ceased to exist. I am Ukrainian and my whole family is back in Ukraine. To not fall apart I kept knitting. Javelin is an old Celtic word, which means a light spear thrown in a competitive sport or used as a weapon. There’s also a portable anti-tank missile system called Javelin, that’s being used by Ukrainians to stop the invaders. I like the melodic sound of it and even though I could come up with a more romantic name for this design, I feel it most appropriate. Javelin is about strength and resilience. But under the hard textured shell of the top and edges there is a soft and humble soul of the body. The pullover is knit top-down in the round with straight sleeves gathered at the cuffs and a boxy, slightly cropped body. You can take a closer look at my sample and discover the design process in this podcast episode. Sizes The pattern is written for nine sizes 1 (2, 3, 4, 5) (6, 7, 8, 9) with a finished bust circumference of ca. 89 (98, 109, 120, 129) (140, 149, 160, 169) cm // 35 (38.5, 42.75, 47.25, 50.75) (55, 58.5, 63, 66.5) in incl. ca. 15 cm (5.75 in) of recommended positive ease.
