Manchester has a strong cultural identity tied up in its industrial working class roots. Much is made of the well preserved municipal buildings in the city centre; great icons of the Victorian age at its productive height. People tend to forget the hidden authentic heritage all around them - there is a fine warren of little cobbled passages running covertly throughout the district which can also lay claim to being products of the same era as the polished banks and behemothic buildings in the tourist brochures. If you don't mind grime and like the idea of walking on century-old cobbles, these alleyways are wonderful fragments of working class history.
