Parallel Lines Cut by a Transversal Relay Races This relay race activity is great way for students to work together to classify angle pairs (alternate interior angles, alternate exterior, angles corresponding angles, and consecutive interior angles) and solve problems with parallel lines cut by a transversal. Students must be able to solve a multi-step equation. There are four versions of the relay: A, B, C, and D. Place student in groups of 4 and give each student a relay. All students complete problem #1. Once all students are finished, they rotate papers. They must use the answer from the previous question to substitute into the next problem. They continue solving, rotating papers, until all four rounds are completed. I have found the relays to be incredibly beneficial in my classroom as they stress the importance of accuracy and not rushing through. This also works great as independent work or warm-ups/exit tickets.
