She also wanted something in bright, vibrant rainbow colors and the only yarn I found at my LYS was fingering weight. With the help of two free patterns I came up with this sweet little hat. Source Patterns (both free via Ravelry): Noro Hat by Saartje de Bruijn Swirl Hat by Mandie Harrington Sizing This pattern makes a hat to fit a child, ages 5-8, or a head 18”-21” inches in circumference. Materials Needles: Size 5 (3.75mm) needles: one 16-inch circular, one set dpn’s. Yarn: Crystal Palace Yarns Mini Mochi, one skein. Color: 101 (Intense), Lot 182. Fingering weight. Accessories: one stitch marker. Directions CO 112 sts. Join for knitting in the round. Place marker at beginning of round. Rows 1-8: knit Rows 9-12: purl Rows 13-16: knit Rows 17 to crown: Alternate 4 rows knit and 4 rows purl until desired length. Hat pictured has 7 “rings” of purl stitches, not including rolled brim (row 60). Start decreases at marker after last round of purl sts. (row 61). Switch to dpn’s when necessary.
