Engage students in math with this simple Geometry game - Transformation Tetris! Perfect when introducing rotations, reflections and translations or as ongoing revision game - just like my students, your students will be begging to play this game daily! Based on the puzzle video game created in 1985 by Alexy Pajitnov, students roll a dice to determine one of 5 given shapes. From here, they decide on the transformation they wish to use before recording and placing on the game board. A player is eliminated when any of their tetris pieces cross into the top gray section - students need to think carefully (and strategically!) about where to place a piece and what transformation to use. Included in this resource: Teacher Instructions How to Play Playing Dice Template Transformation Option Sheet for student reference. This encourages students to use language such as; reflect vertically/horizontally, rotate 1/2 or 1/4 left/right, translate ____ squares left/right etc. Playing Board Record Sheet a variety of Transformation Posters This resource has been included in both color and black and white. I have used the black and white version previously for student's own coloring. Be sure to check out my extensive hands-on transformation activities your students are sure to love!
