In this listing we are very pleased to offer a wonderful large glass table lamp by ILU di Vetro. In a very rare red on white version in what we believe to be the largest version this color was made in ! Moreover it is in mint condition ! It is the first time that we have owned a red one after having sold more than a dozen black on white ones over the past years. The glass shade rests on a white coated metal base. Beautiful shape that is reminiscent of a pressed down ball or pebble. The size is large and would be suitable on the floor as well. Design and edition is by the Dutch company ILU design. This lamp was part of their Vetro line. The Vetro line lamps were all made with glass from Italy. The glass was (presumably) made at LAM Italy. The model is called Zebra, derived from the beautiful swirl that runs all around the shade from down to up. The first edition of these lamps only had eggplant colored swirls but following their success, red versions were also made. The swirls were added manually and therefore differ by lamp: no lamp is the same! Just like no zebra has the same stripes. The glass is quite thick. These are quality made lamps. As far as we could trace, they first came to market in the second half of the 1990s and were on sale for at least a decade. In the Netherlands most were sold at the luxury department store De Bijenkorf. The Zebra lamps were also issued by other lamp manufacturers in other countries. There are copies known by German EGLO & Zicoli Leuchten and Italian LAM. Very recently Eastern European copies of Zebra lamps (only eggplant on white versions) have started to emerge with the swirls not integrated in the glass like the originals but sprayed on! Rest assured: this is a genuine vintage ILU lamp with double marking. The ILU Zebra lamps were made in 4 sizes in this pressed down ball/pebble shape and one round/ball size. The sizes M and L (as offered here) were most sold. The XL size is quite rare and the S size is very rare (we have only seen/had one once). As far as our research could tell the red ones were only made in sizes M & L and in the pressed down ball / pebble version but never in the S or XL. The swirl on this one is exceptional. First and foremost the swirl can be clearly felt on both the inside and outside and up close it is visible that the swirl is made from actual glass paste. The swirl on this lamp starts out fairly thick at 20 millimeters / 0.79 inches at the bottom and ends up at a width of 8 millimeters / 0.31 inches on top. There is is a good mouvement in the line with varying distance between the lines. There is definitely no other lamp like it. The shade is fitted on a white coated metal base and is clamped with 3 elegant brass screws that can be tightened by hand or with the use of a screwdriver. The lamp is marked with an ILU sticker label near the bottom rim and on the bulb holder: Made in Holland! This lamp takes 1 E27 size bulb with screw type fitting. The lamp is fitted with the original 240 centimeters / 94.49 inches long white lamp cord, inline switch at 61 centimeters / 24.01 inches from the base and 2-pin flat European plug. It is designed for a 220/230 volt network. With adaptations it can also be used in networks of a different voltage. Measurements: Height: 25 cm / 9.84 inches Diameter at its widest point: ca 35 cm / ca 13.78 inches Diameter of the metal base: 18 cm / 7.09 inches Thickness of the glass: 0.4 cm / 0.16 inches Length of the lamp cord: 240 cm / 94.49 inches Weight: 2848 grams. Condition: Excellent to mint condition. The inside of the bottom rim has a few dots of needle point roughness, caused by the brass bolts. It is very minimal and completely out of sight on the inside. Apart from that the lamp is in a virtually new condition with the glass beautiful all around. We could not detect a single scratch. There are a number of air bubbles from production inside the glass. These can be found in various areas of the glass. Some are bubbles of about 5 millimeters / 0.19 inches in diameter than can be at the surface. Towards the bottom there are one or two sprawls of tiny air bubbles that are more inside the glass layers. At first glance these can actually look like staining but if you look close you realize they are tiny bubbles. This is more fascinating than a condition issue. The metal base is in excellent condition with only minor paint wear in the outer inner rim. All - again - completely out sight. The wiring, switch and plug have minor age discoloration and are now more cream white. Please refer to the pictures to get the best impression. We have many more pictures available of this item.
