Here’s a set of autumn riddle activities to build your students’ addition and subtraction math fact fluency within 10. Great as a math curriculum enrichment and for fall math centers in first grade and early second, too! Here's how math riddle task cards work! Choosing from four numbers, your students will determine the fall Mini-Monsters' secret number {cute monsters, not scary ones! :) } by eliminating three of the options. With each riddle task card they do, your students will complete three addition or subtraction number models. They'll exercise mental math skills, practice math facts, have a great time, and won’t even realize that they’ve completed 72 problems to find their answers! Here's what this addition and subtraction activity set includes! ✅ 24 riddle task cards to practice addition and subtraction within 10 ✅ Student recording page ✅ Answer key ✅ Math center game ✅ A printable worksheet version of the riddles is also included, with four riddles on each page. ✅ Want a digital option? This file also includes full-page jpegs of all riddle cards, one card per page, so they're easy to use on your laptop or handheld devices with your favorite apps and programs. Here are some ways that you might use these math riddle cards and activities with your own first grade or second grade students! * Use in a math center or math tub for individual or partner work * Use with your document camera for whole class review or to focus attention at the beginning of a math lesson * Use as a skills review rotation (aka "Scoot"), individually or with partners, with students moving to stations around the classroom to solve the clues * Use for morning “bell ringers” * Use as challenge work or for early finishers * Use as an activity with classroom volunteers – they can complete as few or as many as time allows! • Include these with your plans for a substitute teacher. • Send them home with a student who missed a lesson or who has a planned absence • Use the worksheets as a whole class activity – their multiple choice format makes them ideal for test prep for standardized tests!
