This math activity will engage the entire class and give students a hands-on activity to manipulate the pieces to see a larger version of a line plot. This set of task cards is designed to be used as a whole class life-size model, but could be used in small groups, partners, or even individually. There are 64 task cards with measurements to plot. You decide which amount you want to use based on your students. This activity could take one math period or last over a couple of days. This activity could be done a few ways and also used more than once by varying the task cards: SCAFFOLDING: Start with a set number of cards and add more each time the activity is completed. This will change the data/results each time it is completed, making it “new” each time. DIFFERENTIATION: For example, to make it less difficult, students could use 5-10 cards, average difficulty 11-16 cards, highest difficulty 17+ cards. The number lines (denominators) could also be used to differentiate instruction. Some cards are in 1/2, 1/4, and 1/8.
