Nasty looking assassin bug (Reduviidae), night active (attracted by camp lights) and probably specialized in preying either on termites or millipedes. The beak (rostrum) is about 2.5 mm long, and can inflict a very painful bite. Ethanol-preserved specimen from Mikembo (Lubumbashi, DR Congo, January 2013). Studio stack based on 153 exposures taken with a 4x microscope objective + tube lens on fully extended bellows (see tags). ISO100, f/5.0, 1/200sec, cylinder paper diffused flash. Assembled in ZereneStacker (Dmap & Pmax); cleaned & treated in GIMP and LR. Slightly cropped image, now about 5mm high, i.e. 7.2x magnification (FF)
