More than 4 billion people live in urban areas globally. It’s now projected that by 2050, more than two-thirds of the world population will live in urban areas. So no wonder we pay more importance to the buildings and structures around us.

Puy St Front, Périgueux's medieval district developed during the 13th century near St Front Cathedral and boasts an impressive number of listed buildings
Being a war child of the applied and the fine arts, Art nouveau has always gathered way more attention than both of them combined....
Gothic architecture flourished during the high and late medieval period. It evolved from Romanesque architecture and was succeeded by Renaissance architecture. Originating in 12th century France and lasting into the 16th century, Gothic architecture was known during the period as "the French Style", with the term Gothic first appearing during the latter part of the Renaissance. Its characteristic features include the pointed arch, the ribbed vault and the flying buttress. Itis most familiar as the architecture of many of the cathedrals, abbeys and churches of Europe. It is also the style of many castles, palaces, town halls, universities and to a lesser extent, private dwellings. It is in the great churches that the Gothic style was expressed most powerfully, its characteristics lending themselves to appeal to the emotions. A great number of ecclesiastical buildings remain from this period, of which even the smallest are often structures of distinction while many of the larger cathedrals are considered priceless works of art. A series of Gothic revivals began in 18th century England, spread through 19th-century Europe and continued, largely for ecclesiastical and university structures, into the 20th century. Presented in digital format, for the first time on one amazing data DVD are 72 rare, vintage books on the subject of Gothic Architecture. This original antique engraving from 1906 of gorgeous Romanesque period architecture 6th to 10th century) is one of the most beautifully detailed engravings you'll ever see! The details in this sharp-as-a-tack engraving from the late 19th century in this study or Romanesque building design are amazing. Printing of this quality and detail is a long-lost art form I'm afraid. Engraving is an amazingly slow and time-consuming process. Far too costly to pay an artisan to do in these times. Zoom in for a closer look. '1906 Romanesque Architecture is in glorious condition captured in classic basic black (of course) and it's Perfect; smooth and flat with firm edges and sharp corners and almost no tanning at all. Remarkable condition for 109-year-old paper! Your 1906 antique steel engraved illustration is enumerated in German and is blank on the reverse side and measures 12.25" x 9.5." It's folded neatly down the center as issued. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Romanesque architecture is an architectural style of Medieval Europe characterized by semi-circular arches. There is no consensus on the beginning date of Romanesque architecture, with proposals ranging from the 6th to the 10th century. Examples of Romanesque architecture can be found across the European continent, making it the first pan-European architectural style since Imperial Roman Architecture. The Romanesque style in England is traditionally referred to as Norman architecture. Combining features of Western Roman and Byzantine buildings, Romanesque architecture is known for its massive quality, its thick walls, round arches, sturdy piers, groin vaults, large towers, and decorative arcading. Each building has clearly defined forms and they are frequently of the very regular, symmetrical plan so that the overall appearance is one of simplicity when compared with the Gothic buildings that were to follow. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Matted, framed, and displayed as a gallery grouping, these wonderful old black and white studies are simply spectacular. (Please note that the framed examples in the last photo are just to show how this might look when it's framed. Your print will come to you unmatted and unframed.)
