Choose among simple, compound, complex, and compound-complex sentences to signal differing relationships among ideas. This set of three activity sheets and one note sheet focuses on this one objective (L7.1b in the Common Core Standards). The activity sheets teach students to identify simple, compound, complex, and compound-complex sentences and use them correctly in their writing. The one-page note sheet provides definitions, information, and rules for using these four types of sentences. The three activity sheets include: Activity Sheet 1 includes a fill-in chart for students to complete with the elements of each type of sentence and an example of each. There is also a fill-in-the-blanks exercise. Activity Sheet 2 includes multiple-choice questions and sentences for students to proofread by correcting errors such as comma splices, run-on sentences, sentence fragments, and punctuation mistakes. Activity Sheet 3 includes pictures for students to write about using specific types of sentences, and a paragraph for students to proofread.
