We added an extension to the front and repositioned the main entrance. We were mindful of being in a conservation area and split the extension into two elements to minimise the overall impact on the surrounding houses

HEM Architects - In late August 2010, Paul started Paul Testa Architecture from his kitchen table at home. To mark a decade of practice, we’ve pulled together 12 projects that have been milestones in the company's development. Some have been built, some never left the drawing board but they’ve all been influential in the development of our thinking and approach to designing for place and people. 10. Den Bank Drive Like Paul, Alan couldn’t hold off from transforming his tired semi in Sheffield into a modern family home. The first main phase of construction just completed in time for the arrival of baby number two - in perfect Grand Designs style. As with many Sheffield sites, the house is set on a steep slope allowing the opportunity to extend downwards as well as outwards creating a generous 4-storey home with a much-improved connection to the garden and a lovely roof terrace at ground floor level that enjoys fantastic views across the valley. We have worked to minimise energy use and maximise comfort in the house. Whilst not quite Enerphit, every effort has been paid to insulation, air-tightness and ventilation to give the most comfortable and healthy home. The pièce de résistance of the project is undoubtedly the timber-clad side extension.
