An interesting part of the geometry of the 1x4 hinge arises because the point of rotation is offset from the center line of the studs. This means the hinge can be placed in two positions where the outermost studs are 60LDU apart (on center). When you do this, the resulting angles are 36.86° and 53.14° (the geometric proof is left to the reader). These are the angles of a 3:4:5 right triangle. This may be the smallest possible stud-based construction of such a triangle using LEGO elements.
