This product will help your kinesthetic learners make connections as they experience calculating total surface area and lateral surface area with this hands on activity. Students work in partners to determine the names of the shapes when the nets are constructed, measure the nets themselves (to the nearest half centimeter), and then calculate both the total and the lateral surface area. I have personally used this in class, even one year during a formal observation! I loved how it required my students to bring in several skills in order to complete the lab correctly. Something as simple as seventh graders measuring with a ruler or multiplying numbers with decimals, skills that we all feel our students should understand by this grade level, but yet so many don't or have forgotten. This activity bring it all in, and the cherry on top is the fact that they are learning about surface area.
