Inventions and Inventors PowerPoint Lesson This instructional PowerPoint presentation covers basic information about inventions and inventors . Several slides prompt students with a discussion question. Have them work in small groups to discuss the topic or discuss as a class. Slide 14: It's Your Turn Ending Slide 2. Create Your Own Invention Project: Students will design and build a new invention out of everyday items YOU provide. Items include but aren't limited to: paper, popsicle sticks, straws, pipe cleaners, tin foil, fuzzy pom-poms, string, etc. Makes a great STEM activity! Students will use the PDF planning sheet graphic organizer to brainstorm their invention. The teacher can choose if his/her students fill out the planning sheet before they use the supplies to create their inventions or after students have had the opportunity to manipulate the supplies. Finally, students will write a short sentence, paragraph or paper about their invention. Two different kinds of lined paper are included in the PDF. An editable grading rubric in PowerPoint is provided. Slides are set to print on 11x8.5 paper. I have included technology integration ideas for presenting student inventions. iPads, laptops and Chromebook ideas are covered. 3. Famous Inventor Research Project: Assign or have students choose one of the 24 Famous Inventor Cards that will indicate who their project will be about (These cards could be used for a variety of different activities !). After research is complete, students can write a sentence or paragraph depending on their level using one of the two different line paper templates provided in the PDF. Have them present their findings to a small group or the entire class!
