Fun, engaging and super easy to prep companion to the story If You Give a Pig a Pancake by Laura Numeroff and Felicia Bond. Enough to do over a week to extend the story but not so much that it’s overwhelming! PERFECT as ”no stress” substitute teacher plans! The kids LOVE the “Pig’s Pancake House dramatic play! Leave the book, all the materials and the question prompts included and you’re good to go! Story sticks and felt figures are powerful for use with instruction too! Read and re-read the story. Discuss as a class. Model how to use the story sticks or felt figures to help with retelling with expression. They will really pick up on your cues For re-telling for when it is their turn! After students make their own set of story sticks I love to see them partner up and practice re-telling with each other. Students can engage in storytelling in a non-threatening way. Testing out their ”storytelling voices” with story sticks or felt figures is a natural way to practice expression, recalling details, story elements, and participating in conversations (following rules for speaking and listening). Story sticks are such a great way to encourage students to practice their storytelling skills at home too!
