As winter sinks in, I normally plan for a vacation somewhere warm and tropical…but this year, I’ve got cabins on my mind. I was dreaming of a cozy winter cabin that can only be reached by dirt roads. Often surrounded with wilderness and seclusion, cabins are wonderful places to take a much needed break from everyday life […]

Let me put you onto the PERFECT Minnesota Airbnb “Staycation”. Whether you’re looking for a great spot near Minneapolis/Saint Paul, or making your Airbnb stay the activity, this is the perfect place for you! If the pictures aren’t enough to convince you to book a trip to The Stylle Hytte, here are 10 reasons! 1 Peaceful Seclusion The Stylle Hytte is located on a 10 acre lot. Meaning no neighbours, no road noise, no people walking by. The perfect way to get back to your element, take some time to think, or just enjoy quality time with the people you’re with. When we booked this trip, our main goal was to RELAX. Normally when planning a vacation, I try to pack as many things as possible into the shortest amount of time (especially now, taking PTO into consideration). With this trip, the main focus was to C H I L L. On the to-do list? Sleep in, read a book, go for a relaxing walk, check out the river. It’s much easier to enjoy the downtime when it’s not in between laundry loads. 2 Stunning Architecture Who doesn’t love an A-frame? The beautiful style of the cabin allows for an entire wall of windows in the living space, leaving less space between you and nature. Because the windows are on a south facing wall, it also allows for beautiful view of the sunset! 3 Cozy Atmosphere You definitely won’t get lost in the Stylle Hytte. Besides the main living space, there is one bedroom, the bathroom and an open loft. Although the space is small, Chelsey and Ken definitely have taken advantage of (and maximized) the space they have. The small space feels intimate and lends a cozy, minimalistic cabin feel. It wasn’t cool enough for us to have to use it, but the cabin features a functioning wood burning stove! I imagine that a warm fire helps cultivate the perfect overall cozy feel of the cabin. There is plenty of chopped wood ready to be used on site. 4 Barrel Sauna One of the most thoughtful additions at The Stylle Hytte is the barrel sauna. Located just off the deck, it’s perfect for any time of year. A sauna is a wonderful way to unwind and relax, just a few of the many health benefits! This sauna warms up in 15 minutes, and we spent about 30-45 minutes enjoying it each night. It was definitely a contributing factor when deciding to stay here! Chelsey and Ken provide two fluffy robes, which were perfect for going in and out. 5 Full Kitchen Due to being in a secluded area, there aren’t too many places to grab a bite to eat within a short distance. Not to worry, because the kitchen is stoked with anything you could possibly need! The cupboards are filled with pots, pans and other cookware. There are dishes and cutlery for 4+ people, a full coffee station, plus I noticed plenty of items specifically for children. We packed all of our food. If you are planning on cooking your meals, you would have to do the same. We were sure to pack things like butter, and maple syrup; we did forget ketchup/barbecue sauce- make sure to add condiments to your packing list! If you are interested in eating out, there are a few suggestions in the Stylle Hytte guide of places in close proximity. 6 Tree Lined Trails The cabin may be small, but there is so much space outdoors to stretch your legs. Wide paths throughout the property are the perfect place to walk, explore, and enjoy nature. If you’re looking for a longer walk, the main dirt road is also beautifully tree-lined. We had so much fun walking through the forested area with our dog. He loved running up and down the trails and chasing squirrels. 7 Beautiful River (And Kayaks!) If you follow the back trail away from the cabin you’ll be lead to a small river. Much like the rest of the property, this area feels very secluded and intimate. We had a wonderful time just sitting on the bank and spending some quality time together. There were three kayaks and a canoe available, and if you know me, I couldn’t resist! The river was pretty low so we mostly just paddled in circles, but it was a fun activity nonetheless! (Time to put kayaks on my Christmas list AGAIN) 8 It’s Pet Friendly This may not be a deciding factor for everyone, but for us, finding a place to stay where we can bring our furry friend is BIG. We were so happy that Brutus was able to come with us. He had to stay off of the furniture and rugs, and he wasn’t allowed to come in the house while wet (a rule that ..mostly.. applies at our own house). We loved being able to share this getaway with him. He had such a fun time ripping up and down the trails, and sleeping on the deck! *There is an addition cleaning fee for bringing your pup* 9 Minneapolis/Saint Paul is Drivable The Stylle Hytte is located near Brook Park Minnesota, about an hour north of Minneapolis/Saint Paul. Whether you’re looking to stay near the city, or get out of the city it’s absolutely within driving distance. We visited from the Fargo area, so our drive was a little bit longer at just over 4 hours. We both agreed that this spot was definitely worth the trip and we can’t wait to go back! 10 The Thoughtful Details Chelsey and Ken thought of EVERYTHING. Heck- fluffy towels, soft robes, and the beautiful tiled shower make bathing an experience. It’s truly the details that make places like this so special. The beautiful handmade guest book, the heated flooring, and unique concrete countertops truly reveal how well thought out every component is. The Stylle Hytte isn’t just a place to stay, it’s truly an experience. If you’re interested in booking...

Oregon is well known for its out-in-the-wild experiences, and I have been eyeing a visit to the Tilly Jane cabin on Mt. Hood ever since moving here back in 2008. This cabin is located on the far less visited eastern side of Mt. Hood at the top of a 7-mile dirt road heading straight up to the tree line. Think Timberline lodge with no electricity, no water, and visitors that number in the dozens rather than the 1000s.
These Washington cabins and tree houses make for the perfect getaway. I'm sharing my top 24 picks that you should definitely add to your bucket list!
Tis the season to be snowbound.
A cabin in the woods or an elegant home design, these cabin-inspired activities give you countless hours of fun for inside and outside in the winter snow.
