When a D.C. area wedding designer Jessica Marie of Social Supply Events reached out needing help creating tropical, beach-inspired wedding welcome gifts for her own upcoming destination wedding, we could hardly wait to begin the design process. While we generally don't create custom gifts for events outside the U.S., we made an exception and were thrilled to hear that these custom welcome baskets successfully made it all the way to the Dominican Republic in the bride's luggage! Photo: Lissa Ryan Photography The goal of the gifts was to create a little excitement upon the guest's arrival and provide some comfort during their stay. We opted for seagrass baskets with neutral elements to compliment the elevated beach vibe of the wedding, planned by Virginia-based Strawberry Milk Events. For snacks, we selected coconut chips, plantain chips, and dried apricots tied with twine and a wax seal. Image: Lissa Ryan Photography In addition to sweet and savory snacks, the gift boxes also included useful items such as Voss water and custom hangover kits with Advil, Pepto, and the cutest little bottles of sunscreen. We packaged them in our signature drawstring pouches with a soft grey first aid symbol for added customization. Image: Red October Photography For a really special addition, we added striped turkish towels and fun sunglasses for guests to use during the weekend. Due to lack of room inside the baskets, we opted to present them on the outside of the baskets, tucked underneath the ribbon, and were pretty thrilled with how they turned out! Image: Lissa Ryan Photography We included welcome notes featuring modern calligraphy and packaged in vellum paper. The notes outlined all of the details of the weekends' events! We finished off the gifts with a sprig of eucalyptus, tied off with tan raw-edge ribbon and personalized gift tags. Instead of generic tags with "Welcome to the Dominican Republic", we had each guest's name printed on their very own gift tag which took the level of thoughtfulness to a whole new level. Image: Lissa Ryan Photography These are totally in the running for one of our absolute favorite custom gift designs of 2018 and its only early April! We hope the guests enjoyed them as much as we loved creating them. For more information on our Custom Gift Design Service, reach out via our contact page or visit here. We’d love to hear from you and learn more about your gifting goals.
Perhaps you saw us post our top 10 wedding welcome gifts of 2016. Well, today it's time to share our top 10 favorite corporate and client gift designs of 2016! White House Correspondents Dinner It was an incredible honor to be asked to design custom welcome gifts for several guests of the White House Correspondents Dinner at the Mayflower Hotel. Perhaps you recall us sharing these with you back in August. We used open white crates with a leather-bound journal, artisan chocolates, a White House pen, bubbly, cookies in the shape of the US Capitol dome by Fresh Bakes, custom welcome letter and floral bouquets from Urban Stems. Calligraphy and paper design by Just Write Studios. Image: Red October Photography Eastern Shore Wedding Planner Gift Boxes We are still head over heels for these custom welcome gifts designed for Easton, Maryland-based Kari Rider Events. The modern white hat boxes, grey pashminas, bubbly, artisan chocolates and custom paper perfectly expressed her branding. Image: Red October Photography Image: Elizabeth Fogarty Photography DC Wedding Photographer Client Welcome Boxes DC-area wedding photographer Abby Grace's favorite cocktail is the French 75 so naturally we created a cocktail-in-a-box for her couples to serve as a welcome gift. In addition to all of the ingredients needed to create the drink, we also included custom recipe cards with instructions along with branded notecards for a special personalized message to be included to each couple. They were finished off with a gift tag and Abby Grace Photography's welcome booklet. Image: Abby Grace Photography Image: Abby Grace Photography Calligraphy & Engraving Business Rebranding Launch Gifts When husband and wife team Jenny and Rick Muffler of Just Write Studios decided to rebrand in mid-2016, they wanted to send out gifts to announce their new brand to various vendors and wedding planners they currently work with and even ones they wanted to work with in the future. We incorporated their calligraphy on a hard-back journals reading "write you own story", gift tags reading "change is in the air, introducing the all new..." for the outside of each box, and a custom cookie reading "because for us, it all started with calligraphy." (The messaging on the cookie was inspired by the fact that Jenny and Rick actually met at a calligraphy conference. Cute, right?) For a celebratory feel, we included a bottle of bubbly, chocolate covered oreos from Buttercream Bakeshop in the same marble pattern found in their new branding, and a gold pen to accompany the journal. Image: Red October Photography Image: Red October Photography The Bump Bloggers Luncheon Gift Baskets When The Knot's sister company The Bump was hosting a luncheon for mom bloggers, they wanted spa-inspired welcome gifts to pamper each guest. We designed small gift baskets with a custom logo cookie, electronic wipes, bath salts and artisan lip balm. We also added mini succulents for a fresh finishing touch! Image: Red October Photography Image: Red October Photography Destination Wedding Planner Gift Boxes Wedding planner Claire Duran of Claire Duran Weddings and Events wanted to include her favorite Dominican coffee in her client gifts and we made that happen, then designed the rest of the gift boxes around this main concept. We included coffee cups, a tea towel, gourmet nuts for snacking and a logo cookie! Logo and tags by Little Cat Creative. Image: Marigold & Grey Image: Marigold & Grey San Francisco Corporate Retreat Gift Crates We worked with event planning firm 23 Layers on these custom corporate retreat gifts for an event at Cavallo Point in San Francisco. Artisan caramels, gourmet cookies, snack mix and elderflower pressé beverages were included to keep the attendees fed and hydrated. We also added straws and air plants for an added touch of detail! Image: Red October Photography Image: Red October Photography Corporate Holiday Gift Boxes We loved creating these custom holiday gift boxes for MOJO PSG clients just this past December! The goal was to achieve a modern, yet hand crafted, feel. We used pine boxes, black and gold holiday candles, small batch bourbon, artisan chocolates, gourmet cookies and charger roll-ups! They were finished off with red ribbon in MOJO's primary branding color and the "Happy Holidays" gift tags featured the same font used throughout their website and marketing pieces. Image: Stacy Bauer Photography Image: Stacy Bauer Photography Maryland Wedding Planner Client Gift Boxes For these custom welcome gift boxes for Adriana Marie Events, we used monochromatic colors to highlight her brand's color palette and soft, yet modern, aesthetic. The gifts were both useful and fun with handcrafted journals and coordinating Le Pen, custom logo cookies and Sugarfina malt balls. We finished them off with simple "enjoy" gift tags, again, in Adriana's branding colors. Image: Red October Photography Image: Red October Photography DC Wedding Photographer Client Gifts You guys went nuts on social media over these custom welcome boxes were created for DC wedding photographer Anny Photography! We included botanical print journals, modern logo cookies, artisan candles and a small vial of bath salts. We finished them off with grey gift tags with white ink as a nod to the grey in her branding. And of course, blush ribbon! Image: Red October Photography Image: Red October Photography Corporate Holiday Gift Crates For commercial real estate firm JLL's holiday client gifts, we opted to start with large gift crates in a cherry stain. We included lots of DC-inspired items such as artisan chocolates featuring DC monuments, Compass coffee, District Vodka, US Capitol cookies, cherry blossom cookies and even a set of cedar coasters featuring various DC neighborhoods. We finished them off with "Happy Holidays" tags featuring the JLL logo. Image: Red October Photography Image: Red October Photography I actually think that was eleven instead of ten, but who's counting? We hope you've enjoyed the round-up. As a professional gift designer, I often get asked for advice on what to include when curating wedding welcome gifts so I figured it was time for a three-part blog series all about these types of gifts and today is Part One! When designing wedding welcome bags, I take into consideration many factors such as location, wedding style, budget, color palette and even the personalities and interests of the couple. But overall, the most important thing is to make sure the gift are as well-balanced and as unique to the couple and their wedding as possible. Read on for some ideas today and then stay tuned because we have two more posts coming in this series later this week and next! Image: Lissa Ryan Photography Local Keepsake Including a meaningful keepsake is a fantastic way to leave your guests with something to remember your wedding by. I adore city-specific coasters or even a notecard set featuring artwork depicting landmarks of the city where you’re getting married. You can even let your gift packaging double as a keepsake by choosing a tote with a screen-printed map of the area. You can also highlight hobbies or interests that play a role in your relationship. Have fun and get creative! DOWNLOAD OUR FREE GUIDE: TOP 10 TRENDS IN WEDDING WELCOME GIFTS Sweet Treat This is a great opportunity to choose something special to you and your fiance. Do you and your fiancé have a favorite bakery nearby? Maybe an individually-wrapped brownie or cookie from this establishment would be the perfect sweet (and meaningful!) snack. Are you having a seaside wedding? Salt water taffy is a great ocean-inspired option to satisfy your guests’ sugar cravings. If you want to tie in your wedding color palette into the gift, macarons are a fantastic way to show off your wedding colors, these from Olivia Macaron. Or, perhaps you simply want to welcome your guests with a celebratory vibe. Champagne Gummy Bears or Champagne Bubbles by Sugarfina are always a Marigold & Grey favorite! Image: Lissa Ryan Photography Savory Snack Balance out the sweet with some good old-fashioned salty! Some ideas we like include salted peanuts, flavorful crackers, bagel crisps, pita chips, trail mix, popcorn, gourmet potato chips or maybe even some high-quality beef jerky. Beverage Let’s face it. It’s pretty annoying to check into a hotel and discover that bottled water isn’t included in the room. Help your guests stay hydrated especially since they’ll be enjoying cocktails and dancing the night away at your reception! For an added touch, consider sparkling water. Mini San Pellegrino bottles always look nice. Also, consider seasonally appropriate drinks such a gourmet hot chocolate for a winter wedding or a spring IPA beer from a local brewery. Image: Lissa Ryan Photography Custom Paper Goods Chances are, you have all the particulars spelled out on your wedding website as well as the invitation suite you mailed out. But, once guests arrive in town, they may not have easy access to all the info. Make it easy for them by creating a weekend timeline along with any necessary maps to help them get to where they need to be. Also, don’t forget a heartfelt message thanking your guests for making the trip. Take it a step further and create a booklet of the “who’s who” of your wedding party or even the background into your love story. Finishing Touches Lastly, pull it all together with memorable finishing touches that take the gifts to the next level and really stay in your guests memory long after the wedding is over. This means ribbon that color coordinates perfectly with your wedding palette, tied in the most perfect bow. It can even mean greenery, either inside or outside of the box or bag. It's that time of year again. The time when we reflect upon our custom projects from the last twelve months and come up with our top designs to share with you. Perhaps you recall last year's favorites from 2017? To be honest, this is always a tough process, especially for me, because I'm notorious for saying that EVERY project is my favorite project. (That's how it's should be, right?) After going back and forth as a team, we've narrowed it down to just ten. Explore our ready-to-ship and custom client gift box services and stay tuned for our Top 10 Wedding Welcome Gifts and Top 10 Corporate Event Gifts but for now, here are our Top 10 Client Appreciation Gift Designs of 2018.... Pinterest Client Gift Boxes When Pinterest called and asked for "Pinterest worthy" curated gift boxes to be designed and sent to their advertising clients at the holidays, I must admit, I had one of those "Am I worthy?" moments. Then, I quickly snapped out of it and got to work curating a gift design that represents their brand, while at the same time, giving off a festive holiday vibe. Their branding is quite obviously red and white and so I used this as a foundation and then added black for dramatic flare. We used black round hat boxes for the packaging and included sweet treats, a modern luxury candle by Brooklyn Candle Co, and the real show stopper...custom cookies in the shape of an iPhone featuring the Pinterest app icon. (Sugar Studio knocked these cookies out of the park!) We finished the gift boxes off with evergreen, pine cones and black and white striped ribbon with a simple logo tag. We took a collective deep breath, exhaled, and sent a sea of these out the door hoping and praying that they pass the "Pinterest worthy" test! Image: Lissa Ryan Photography LA Galaxy Corporate Holiday Gifts We created holiday gifts for professional soccer team LA Galaxy last year and were thrilled to have the opportunity to do it again this season! Their navy, gold and white branding palette is a joy to work with! To create a luxury feel, we used navy blue deluxe gift boxes and embossed their logo in gold on the top of each box so it's the first thing that's seen when the shipping box is opened. We went with a hot toddy theme and included branded toddy mugs, a gorgeous hot toddy kit, honey, cinnamon sticks, and even a tin of small batch peppermint bark. Pine, pine cones and simple navy blue ribbon finished off the design. Image: Lissa Ryan Photography Vegas-Inspired Client Invites Never in a bazillion years did I ever think I'd put a LEGO set in any of our custom gift boxes but never say never. When the American Institute of Architecture hired us to design on-brand client gifts to serve as invites to their upcoming conference in Las Vegas, a Vegas architecture LEGO set made perfect sense! Instead of boxes, we chose sturdy LLBean tote bags that would be useful to attendees during their upcoming trip. We also included locally-sourced small batch popcorn as well as Vegas-made lollipops (in the shape of dice...so fun, right!?) to further get attendees excited about the destination. We wrapped the tote bags in AIA-branded tissue paper and closed the tissue paper with AIA logo stickers before drop-shipping them to the recipients. This aesthetic is a bit of a departure from our normal look, but we thoroughly enjoyed this challenge and are thrilled with how AIA's modern brand was represented and how their business objective was met. Image: Lissa Ryan Photography PR Firm's 'Better Together' Holiday Gift Boxes California-based Gold PR loved the 'Better Together' theme and wanted us to incorporate this in their custom holiday gift boxes for their clients. We paired like items to accomplish the 'Better Together' concept including handmade cutting boards, gold cheese knife sets, gorgeous geode tumblers as well as honey and pecans to round out the design. While their branding colors white, gold and fuschia aren't necessarily traditional holiday, we played up the gold that's typically seen this time of year and also added greenery and pinecones for a seasonal look. The gifts ended up high-end and festive which is representative of Gold PR's brand, not only at the holidays, but year round. Image: Lissa Ryan Photography Luxury Floral Designer Vendor Gifts These botanical-inspired pine gift boxes we created for a luxury floral designer were destined to make this year's top 10 list. Reason being...whenever we shared peeks of these on Instagram, they were always a fan favorite. Our client's objective for these gifts was to thank event planners and other industry contacts for referring them. So, in other words, they went out to our client's industry contacts to solidify relationships and express gratitude instead of being sent directly to their clients. To achieve a luxe natural look, we chose pine wood boxes and filled them high-end, floral-inspired items such as dried flowers, a ceramic bud vase, botanical facial steam, floral scented soap and more. To solidify the organic vibe, we used textured silk ribbon to close the boxes and wrapped the ribbon around numerous times for a layered look. Image: Lissa Ryan Photography Wedding Photographer Hat Boxes The custom gift boxes for wedding photographer Lauren of Lauren Kearns Photography were definitely high impact! We paired black round hat boxes with her deep, rich burgundy branding for a rich, dramatic look. We included small batch coffee, a luxury mulled wine candle, and artisan chocolate and then finished the gifts off with custom holiday notecards featuring a sincere message of gratitude from Lauren. We then incorporated pine cones to solidify the cozy winter vibe! Image: Lissa Ryan Photography Luxury Pool Designer Home-Inspired Client Gifts Sunset Pools, located in Texas, designs luxury pools and outdoor spaces for their clients. They came to us desiring a high end gift design for them to show gratitude to their clients throughout the year. They wanted items that could be used and enjoyed at home. With all of this in mind, we created a layered gift. We selected deluxe ivory gift boxes and filled them lotion and soap sets, candles and bubbly. Then on top of that was a turkish towel that can be used poolside. We loved the idea of pairing both indoor and outdoor items within the same gift. Image: Lissa Ryan Photography Virginia-Inspired Client Gift Boxes A Virginia based real estate firm came to us looking for gender neutral client holiday gifts that would represent their branding aesthetic without being over-the-top holiday. With blues and greens making up their branding palette, we used these colors as a foundation to build cozy gifts that would give a nod to the business' Virginia location. We chose sturdy kraft boxes and included both sweet and savory snacks including a dogwood cookie by Sugar Studio. We also created custom holiday notecards and logo gift tags to round out the look. Image: Lissa Ryan Photography Medical Supply Holiday Client Gifts KY Meds is a repeat client of ours and we were so excited to have them back again for 2018 holiday client gifts! And these gifts literally had it all. From sweet and savory snacks to small batch coffee and bubbly, there was definitely a little something for everyone. Custom holiday notecards by Just Write Studios gave the gifts both professional and personal polish. Image: Lissa Ryan Photography Trader Interactive Client Gifts Again, with the theme of 'Better Together', Trader Interactive loved the idea of creating pairings to represent this concept. We came up with three unique pairings: peanut butter and jelly, beer and nuts, and tea and honey. We used large sturdy black gift boxes for the packaging and paired it with bright red ribbon representing their branding color palette. We added logo gift tags that were really special. We did silver foil for an added touch of luxury and also included custom booklets representing their company mission and further reinforcing the 'Better Together' message. The Classic Desk Succulent Arrangement Ah, the classic desk succulent arrangement –– a gift that's as stylish as practical. This makes it an excellent, inexpensive thank-you gift idea as well. If you've ever attended one of my Succulent Bar workshops, you know that succulents are the epitome of low-maintenance beauty. In other words, they're perfect for someone who loves having plants but doesn't want the hassle of constant care since you only need to follow these simple steps to take care of these beautiful plants: Choose a shallow, well-drained container that complements the retiree's desk or workspace. Fill the container with cactus or succulent soil. Select 3-4 different types of succulents for variety and visual interest. Plant the succulents in the soil, arranging them in a pleasing design. Add some decorative stones or moss for the finishing touch. Voila! You've just created a desk that beautifies her space and symbolizes growth and new beginnings. 2. Spa Day Essentials Who doesn't love a good spa day? But instead of just gifting a basket of lotions and potions, why not elevate it with a touch of green? A small potted succulent can make this classic gift feel extra unique and personalized. Curated Spa Day Basket Ideas Luxurious bath oils or bath bombs A plush robe and slippers Scented candles or essential oils A small potted succulent, like an Echeveria or Haworthia, adds a calming natural element Place all these items in a beautiful retirement gift basket, and you've got a spa day that she can enjoy anytime in the comfort of her home. This could also serve as a thoughtful thank-you gift for coworkers who need to unwind and relax. 3. Personalized Keepsakes Personalized gifts can tug at our heartstrings, don't they? Whether it's engraved jewelry or custom artwork, a keepsake gift shows thoughtfulness and attention to detail And guess what can make it even more special? A small succulent, of course! Keepsake Ideas A custom engraved locket or bracelet with a meaningful date or initials. A piece of custom artwork that reflects her interests or passions. A personalized gift like a photo book filled with memories from her career. Pair any of these keepsakes with a small succulent in a matching or complementary container, and you have a sentimental, beautiful and funny retirement gift –– making succulents one of the best retirement gifts for a teacher or female coworker. 4. The Hanging Succulent Garden If you want to give something that's not just a
One of the best ways to make your out-of-town guests feel special is a wedding welcome letter included in your wedding welcome gifts. The purpose of a welcome letter is to guide your guests around unfamiliar territory (especially if you are having a destination wedding!) and, most importantly, inform them of your wedding day or weekend schedule. Wedding welcome letters can also offer a sneak peak into the design and overall feel of your special day. Image: Red October Photography; Paper Design: Poppy & Scooter Here are some of the items you should include: Heartfelt Note Write a gracious and heartfelt note to your guests. Convey your thanks for making the trip to celebrate this momentous occasion. While most all of your guests know you well and are familiar with your love story, there may be "plus ones" who don't know you quite as well. You might reference a special detail or two about how you met or why your wedding location has special significance to you and your relationship. Weekend Itinerary One of the most common items to include in a welcome wedding letter is the itinerary for the wedding day or weekend. Make sure to clearly state the event, name of the location, address, time, and most helpful, attire. I can’t tell you how helpful it is to include suggestions on what to wear!! Transportation Specifics Bus pick-up times and locations! This is SO important. I've heard horror stories of guests not knowing where or when to be picked up. Like the wedding itinerary, clearly state the pick-up location and time. If you're not offering group transportation, phone numbers to local, reputable cab companies is always helpful. And, of course, remind them about Uber if offered in your area. Thoughtful 'What To Do's' This part can be a lot of fun! In your 'What To Do' section, select your favorite places to eat, bars to venture, or local historical museums. This is a great way to share your personal choice of restaurants and hotspots with your guests. Contact Information Brides, whatever you do, resist the urge to offer your contact information! Take it from me; you WILL be busy. Why add a number at all, you ask? Well, emergencies can happen. Someone gets lost or there are issues with the hotel. While it's not up to you to fix it, it is helpful to provide some form of assistance should questions arise. The best point of contact is your wedding planner or a special person you appoint to handle these types of phone calls. Or, give the assignment to someone not in your wedding party but who is reliable and will know the wedding schedule very well. Anyone but you! Make it Blend Once you have the important content figured out, now you can focus on the aesthetics of the welcome letter. This is the fun part! Make sure the design coordinates well with the style and color palette of your welcome gifts. Ideally, your welcome inserts can be designed along with your other wedding paper...invitations, signage, day-of paper, etc. Image: Red October Photography We hope you've enjoyed these tips! If you need more help, reach out to us here. We'd love to learn more about your gifting goals for you wedding...welcome letters included!
