To maximize the chances your package will arrive before Christmas, please order BEFORE November 24 Up for sale today is this Washington state highway 10-B sign. Made to the exact 1954 state standard, as used along this famous road between then and the early 1960s. An original of these would cost many hundreds of dollars if it ever came to the market. So here is your chance to own an excellent display piece, for just a fraction of the price. The sign weighs about 6 pounds, 2 ounces, and is the same size as the originals: 15 by 16 inches. It is a high quality, heavy steel sign. Accept no imitations that may be one-third this price, but are one-tenth the quality. No cheap tin to be found here, with the wrong fonts, layouts, size, shape, or any other manner of embarrassing imperfection. This one will make even the most discerning collector stick their nose into the sign, as it looks that good from that close! I can of course make these signs with any route number of your choice, and not just this style, but older and newer ones, and even the classic mileage, direction, and city limit guide signs from the era. Anything you would like, made with unsurpassed quality right here in the good old US of A. Please note: actual international shipping will be calculated on a case by case basis. BLUE RIDGE Tunnel, Rockfish Gap, Afton Virginia - Original Topographical Watercolor Map. A confluence of routes through and along the Appalachian/Blue Ridge mountains between Charlottesville and Waynesboro Virginia inspired this Map. At Rockfish Gap, the old highway, new highway, Appalachian Trail, Blue Ridge Parkway/Shenandoah Drive, and the Blue Ridge Tunnel (THROUGH the mountain!) intersect. I created a composite drawing of a USPS Map and my hand-drawn topographic hachures. Printed onto watercolor paper, I used watercolor to draw up the texture of the city of Waynesboro and the farms and forests surrounding this dynamic confluence. Original Watercolor on thick 140gsm watercolor paper, signed & dated by me. Paper size: 17" x 17" Frame not included. Packaged in clear sealed cello sleeve with backboard. {copyright © Kirsten Sparenborg 2021}

Something about these old-looking signs can't be beat. You can show me the most well-designed, standards-meeting and aesthetically-pleasing modern sign today, and I'll prefer these button copy ones. It's all about the classics. For those who don't know, virtually no button copy signs exist in Salt Lake anymore. There remain three button-copy BGSs in the entire Wasatch Front, and that's it. That's a big part of why these photos are so wonderful. This photo is from one of 145 boxes I've been perusing at the State Archives in downtown. These photos come from the Utah Department of Transportation, and were taken mostly by Cal Briggs or Gerald E. Peterson. The photos are sorted by year (with the exception of the first several boxes), and span from 1965 to 1997. Most are black-and-white negatives, though one can find prints here and there, as well as color slides. I have to hand it to the staff over there—without them, none of these photos would be on Flickr and they'd be sitting in some box for ages. My sincerest thanks goes out to them.
