Have you used or been given those sight word rings? Sight word rings are lists of words that are giving to kids and then sent home for their parents to practice with them (memorize with them). Teaching kids to memorize takes 10x longer to learn the word, rather than teaching them their spelling patterns. Irregular words? Almost all irregular word have some kind of pattern that we can still follow. For example, the word “the” is decodable! Th - e (heart word)—> “th” is a digraph , “e” has a ♥️ over it because we need to learn it by heart. Decoding words is not the same as memorizing.
