Students often struggle with identifying which dictionary definition is being used within the context of a sentence. This concept is seen on state testing, such as STAAR tests, and is a concept that can be tedious to teach. Instructions: Students receive a task card with a sentence written on the top and an underlined word. The task card provides students with a mock dictionary entry for the word, with 2-3 possible definitions for the underlined word. Students must decide which dictionary definition to use, based on the context clues provided in the sentence. They record their answer on their student recording sheet.
