Item Details. This is lovely. Worked on hand loomed muslin in the early 19th century - probably from Kashmir in India circa 1800. I cannot emphasise the loveliness of this fine textile. It has an ethereal quality, the muslin is so incredibly fine. It has been beautifully embroidered with a repeating pattern of stylised pink flowers and buds emerging from leaves. These are all embroidered in soft floss silks which contrast beautifully with with the gossamer muslin. This textile would have been used as a shawl or by the European market for dress fabric. Fine muslin dresses were all the rage at this time and a textile such as this would have been perfect for this purpose. Measurements. 37 x 36 inches (93 x 91 cm) Condition. In great condition for a textile from this era. There are a couple of lovely historical mends and a few tiny holes. Nothing which detracts from the loveliness of this special piece. Further Notes.
