Old Dumbarton Map This is a quality reproduction of a historical map showing the town of Dumbarton in Scotland. Originally created around 1880 by the cartographer John Wood, this map features many of the names of the house owners of the time, which may be of genealogical interest. John Wood was an important surveyor of the early 19th century and published the Town Atlas of Scotland which contained around 50 maps of Scottish towns, some of which are available in my shop. Dumbarton is a town in West Dunbartonshire, Scotland, on the north bank of the River Clyde where the River Leven flows into the Clyde estuary. In 2006, it had an estimated population of 19,990. Dumbarton was the capital of the ancient Kingdom of Strathclyde, and later the county town of Dunbartonshire.
