Middle School lesson on Classifying Real Numbers using scaffolded Guided Notes. Vocabulary terms include Natural Numbers, Whole Numbers, Integers, Rational Numbers, Irrational Numbers, Sets, Subsets, and the Real Number System. Scaffold as you teach new content! Practice problems are included: guide students thinking as a whole group, partner activity, or individual practice. The second page of practice problems will enhance students understanding of the set/subsets relationships by analyzing the classifications of a number in the Venn Diagram. I use the notes page and practice problems with my 8th graders. It can be used with 6th/7th graders learning irrational numbers. My students paste the Guided Notes page in their interactive journal as a reference sheet on The Real Number System.
