This is a really fun activity to do to hook students into making connections while reading. Students will smell four different mystery smells and then write connections based on what they smell! Your sense of smell can evoke some very strong feelings and memories so it should be easy for kids to connect to the scents you pick. This is an activity in which students can use to help them remember what it means to make a connection. There are two forms for students to record on. The first one is for the student to keep all four connections on their own paper. The second form is designed to be cut up by the student so you can create a display/anchor chart with a big picture of the hidden smells and glue all of the connections around that smell. I have also included the lesson plan, headings for an anchor chart, mystery scent labels for bags/containers and ideas for mystery scents! a TEACHER on a MISSION, 2018 Permission to copy for single classroom use only.
