Some Neglected History of North Carolina, Being an Account of the Revolution of the Regulators and of the Battle of Alamance, the First Battle of the American Revolution - William Edwards Fitch, M.D. This volume presents a history of the remarkable insurrection which developed in western North Carolina in 1771. The difficulties began several years earlier when the residents of the Piedmont region became dissatisfied with their lack of representation in the colonial Assembly. After their petitions for justice were ignored, a general state of disorder developed. The rebels formed a para-military unit called the Regulators which was defeated by Gov. Tyron's forces in a bloody battle at Alamance Creek near Hillsboro in May of 1771. Several of the rebels were executed for treason; and the remainder, along with all the residents of the area, were required to sign an oath of allegiance. The author's account reproduces numerous contemporary petitions, laws and other papers, and is extensively documented. There are several illustrations and a complete index. (1905), 2010, 5½x8½, paper, index, 326 pp. ISBN: 9781556131776 101-F0177
