*This lesson is great for the beginning of the year as it doubles as an "Ice Breaker" activity that allows you to get to know your students, but it can be used at any point during the year either as a way to expose students to primary and secondary sources or as a refresher if your students need a reminder mid-year!* This lesson is designed to explain primary and secondary sources to students through engagement. Students are exposed to definitions and samples of each and are then asked to come up with situations in which they themselves are primary / secondary sources. This allows for the teacher to address any misconceptions or confusion. This lesson also includes a mini exit quiz done in the style of an exit ticket with 8 sources that students will be asked to identify as either primary or secondary sources. (I also provide a key for easy grading). This lesson can be done independently if you need time to catch up or get other tasks such as grading/planning/administrative work done, but I find that it works best when you are monitoring their responses in order to address any misconceptions.
