Here are some major differences between acid and base. Know all that makes the two differ in their state of existence including PH, taste, etc.
I use this as a review for my general chemistry class during our Acids/Bases unit. Topics covered are: naming acids, writing balanced reactions with acids and bases/carbonates/metals, conjugate acids and bases, strong acid memorization, neutral/acidic/basic salts, pH calculations with strong acids/bases, and general concepts regarding simple titrations. ***You can see the instructions for the challenges in the preview so that you can verify that this will be excellent review for your students.**** So much of this unit is just comfort and fluency with repetitive concepts, and that’s exactly what this challenge provides. Student pairs are able to work at their own pace, and the variety of challenges keeps students engaged during review. My students are completely engaged during this review and get a good sense of what they need to study on their own. Some students asked to take the challenges home with them for more practice. I also use parts of this in my AP chemistry class as a review of what they learned the previous year, before we move forward into more difficult concepts. Included in the download are detailed instructions for teacher set up, challenge instructions and answer keys/sample answers and cards for the challenges.
Organic Chemistry Acid-Base Chemistry Bronsted-Lowry Acid-Base Equilibrium In this lesson, I want to talk about the fundamentals of the acid-base equilibrium and how we use it within the scope of organic chemistry. But before we go into the details of the acid-base equilibrium itself, let’s review what a base and what an acid is according to different definitions. There are three most common definitions of acids and bases and the simplest one, perhaps, is the Arrhenius definition. Arrhenius Acids and Bases According to the Arrhenius definition, proposed by the Swedish physical chemist Svante Arrhenius, an acid is a donor of […]
Acid Base indicators (also known as colours of pH indicators) The pH scale runs from 0 to 14, with each number assigned a different color. At the bottom of the scale sits red, which represents the most acidic, and a dark blue at its opposite end represents 14 and alkalinity. In the middle zone, the
