Fright night isn't just for kids with these Awesome Halloween Party Ideas for Adults.
The last time I hosted a Halloween party, I was 22 years old. I had just moved to Halifax (on the East Coast in Canada), far away from my family and I didn't have very many friends. I wasn't particularly outgoing and I definitely wasn't popular. It was the first (and last) 'big' party I hosted when I was in school. I had a good friend who helped me put up posters on the bulletin board of our architecture school. It was just simple text with the date, time and location on regular letter-sized printer paper. As a student, I didn't have much

Many people these days wish to skip the cheap childish Halloween decorations and go for more elegant and classy adult style decor. Whether you are just handing out candy or having a Halloween party, here are a few ways to decorate your home in a sophisticated adult style for Halloween. Color SchemeSelect a color scheme for your Halloween decorations. Halloween color schemes are not solely about black and orange anymore. Purple has become a popular Halloween color over the last few years, as well as mauve pink, dark emerald green, and peacock blue. You can also skip the orange all together and have your color scheme be black, white, and shades of gray. Consider using metallic colors, such as brass, for sophisticated adult flair. For a modern touch, skip the black all together and use a white and gray color scheme. ThemeWhat theme do you want your home to have? Do you want a scary cemetery, a spooky witch's dinner party, or a haunted house? If scary is not for you, you can have a harvest theme with pumpkins and gourds all around. Popular adult accessories include dripping candles, black crows, owls, black feathers, mercury glass, fake cobwebs, silhouettes, homemade potion bottles, gargoyles, masks, curiosities, black flowers, tree branches, gazing balls, candelabras, old worn hardback books, vintage medical items, and edible items that look like magic potions or body parts. You can even cover all of your furniture with white sheets to make the home feel abandoned. Avoid using excess candy corn (or other candy), scary clowns, action figures, fake blood, cheap paper decorations, pipe cleaner figures, cartoon characters, and cutesy items. Artistic PumpkinInstead of carving a face into your pumpkin, why not decorate your pumpkin in a more artistic style? If you wish to paint your pumpkins, you can paint them solid black, a solid metallic color, or a bold graphic pattern. If you are planning on carving your pumpkin, consider using a drill to cut holes in the pumpkin in an interesting pattern. Don't Forget the ExteriorHalloween decorating is the one holiday where decorating the exterior of your home may be more important than decorating the interior of your home. Make sure the exterior is lit, but not too much light. Consider adding funny and witty tombstones that adults will appreciate. Artificial cob webs, black lights, whispering ghost music, and a smoke machine are appreciated by kids of all ages. Real candles create a great atmosphere, but make sure they will be in a safe place. Silhouettes in the windows can create whatever atmosphere you desire. Skip blow up decorations, excess string lights (especially those that blink), things that jump out at you, dollar store scarecrows, paper skeletons, small rubber bats, stuffed animals, decor that looks like cute candy, and excessive decorations. Simple larger Halloween decorations are more sophisticated than many smaller ones.
