Here is a rare, original 1950s 'Herb Antony' cotton curtain which was designed in 1955 by Lucienne Day (1917-2010). This early design is characteristic of Lucienne's abstract, naturalistically inspired floral and leaf designs from this period in her career. It measures 117cm/46" inches by 123cm/48.25" inches. The pattern name and Lucienne's name appear on the selvedge of the fabric. Lucienne and her husband Robin are regarded as two of Britain's greatest post-war textile and product designers. The 'Herb Anthony' design features on page 84 of the 2011 edition of the book 'Robin and Lucienne Day Pioneers of Contemporary Design' by Lesley Jackson. For further information about the textiles of Lucienne Day visit www.robinandluciennedayfoundation.org The condition is excellent overall, the colours are bright. There are a couple of areas of very, very minor colour fade which are mentioned here for accuracy as this is only visible on close inspection. The bottom hem of the curtain has come unstitched along the bottom on the reverse side of the curtain in a couple of places. Please see all the photos and zoom in for details.

Coronation Street's Antony Cotton and Jennie McAlpine. Officers and staff from Greater Manchester Police (GMP) took part in Manchester’s Pride parade on Saturday 24 August. The annual event, watched by around 200,000 people, is organised by Police with Pride, which consists of lesbian, gay, bisexual and trans (LGBT) representatives from forces across the North West. Among those attending on the day were Assistant Chief Constable Garry Shewan and Police and Crime Commissioner Tony Lloyd. With this year’s theme being ‘Acceptable in the 80s’, officers were raising awareness of how far the Force has come in improving relations with LGBT communities. GMP is now more reflective of these groups, with an increase in gay and trans people working for the organisation, and diversity training is provided to all new recruits to ensure they are sensitive to, and able to respond to, the needs of different groups. GMP’s Assistant Chief Constable Garry Shewan said: “Manchester Pride is a very important event for GMP, as there was a time when officers had to hide their sexuality in order to move up through the ranks. However I am pleased to say that this is no longer the case, and now more police officers and staff march in the Manchester Pride parade than in any other Pride parade in the world.” Darrelle Lynch, who coordinated GMP’s Pride contingent, added: “We want to make it clear to LGBT communities that being gay or trans is no barrier to working for the police, or to progressing within the organisation. We are committed to erasing hate crime in our communities, and GMP utterly condemns abuse or attacks that are motivated by someone’s sexual orientation or transgender identity. People are urged to come forward if they’ve been a victim of hate crime, as officers will always listen and act on any information given.” You can report hate crime by calling police on 101 or online via the True Vision website at www.report-it.org.uk Alternatively, you can visit one of our hate crime reporting centres, which are listed on the GMP website at www.gmp.police.uk To find out more about Greater Manchester Police please visit our website. www.gmp.police.uk You should call 101, the new national non-emergency number, to report crime and other concerns that do not require an emergency response. Always call 999 in an emergency, such as when a crime is in progress, violence is being used or threatened or where there is danger to life. You can also call anonymously with information about crime to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111. Crimestoppers is an independent charity who will not want your name, just your information. Your call will not be traced
