Now, one of the great hostas has been made even better. We are pleased to offer Hosta 'Earth Angel', a marvelous white-edged mutation of Hosta 'Blue Angel'. Each 5' wide clump is composed of thick, wide, pointed blue leaves, each surrounded by a 1" wide, creamy border (yellow in spring). Hosta 'Earth Angel' is the first giant blue hosta to have a border...stand up and cheer! Maintenance: Hosta 'Earth Angel' is essentially a maintenance free perennial. Once the plant has gone dormant in fall, you may wish to remove the old foliage, which helps tidy the garden. Old flower stalks may be removed after flowering, which we feel helps with clump appearance. Growing Conditions: Hosta always grow better in rich, moist soil. They thrive best in clay or amended clay soils, but amended sandy loam can be successful if additional compost or other organic nutrients are added. Dry soils are not problematic for a short time, but hostas will decline if the soil is kept dry over an extended period. Light shade to a couple of hours of early morning sun are best. Dark shade will not result in a satisfactory plant. Garden Value: Hostas like 'Earth Angel' are great to brighten a woodland garden. Their bold texture makes a nice garden foil to more airy-textured perennials. Natural Impacts: Hosta flowers are always a great source of nectar for honeybees.

A love letter to repetition in nature, this design by William Kilburn dates from 1800. The watercolour, small in scale, was found in a sketchbook by descendent Gabriel Sempill and is a departure from the chintz Kilburn was more widely recognised for. As with nature’s certainties, Love Leaves grounds us in the knowledge that the seasons will spring again, the sun will shine another day, the leaves will shoot once more. Its surface-printed technique mimics the patterns of nature – each season is the same, each impression slightly different. The technique also recalls the traditional woodblocks that would have been used in 1800, and surface printing gives the wallpaper an organic, tactile finish with a handcrafted feel. The repeat for Love Leaves was created by Sholto Drumlanrig for Simon Lawrence’s publication, Mr Kilburn’s Calicos.
Blue star fern is an easy houseplant that will grow with little light. It has strappy green-blue leaves and it enjoys frequent watering.
A flower placed in highlighter fluid will absorb the fluorescent ink into its leaves and petals. Shining a black light onto it reveals a delicate network of glowing blue veins. The colours in the image are realistic.

Walking down Leithwalk I met this strange tree, had no leaves, only blue flowers. Photo taken by my mobile camera, time about 9 o'clock in the evening. I will try to take another photo in the daylight.
