Autumn is quite the season, from the changing leaves to the apple-spice desserts and cozy-weather activities. If you're looking for a fabulous fall escape, these charming Southern mountain towns should be first on your list.
With first day of summer having officially arrived yesterday, I find myself still going through images from this years' Spring adventures! Here's one from the Cowee Mountains Overlook that I liked, shot handheld with the D700 and 70-200mm f/2.8 VR II lens. To me, this scene embodies the Southern Appalachian Mountains in the early spring season; colorful blooms adorning the hillsides as your eyes travel the endless ridges of the Blue Ridge Mountains. On this evening, I arrived about an hour before sunset, as a thunderstorm was looming on the horizon. Within minutes, it was right on top of me, it's dark stormy clouds lying like a blanket over the mountains; it was so close I felt I could almost reach up and touch it! I managed to get some shots of the sun's last piercing light over the ridges before I was entirely engulfed in the storm and had to retreat back to my car. A two-hour one-way trip for just a few clicks with the camera...well, that's all worth it to me when you get to experience dramatic scenes like this! I love the rapidly changing weathers in this area; its unpredictability provides a challenge indeed, but there is always a heightened sense of excitement each time I venture into the mountains. In addition to the sheer beauty of the landscape, it's this feeling of excitement and not knowing what you will end up experiencing that brings me back here again and again. Hopefully this image will resonate with you in some way. If so, feel free to share your thoughts in the comments section below. I always appreciate the feedback. That said, I hope you all will have a fantastic summer, and that you won't get too tired of more Spring images to come in the next several weeks! I'll try to switch it up some, although I am still so excited to be going through images of the Rhododendron blooms I was able to capture this year! Until next time, take care and God Bless my friends! © 2017 Johan Hakansson Photography, All Rights Reserved.
