I wish I were sitting in an easy chair before an open fire and someone was bringing me a pie. I think I deserve one too. I've been working outside almost full time for the past 3 days doing my fall cleanup. I mowed everything for the last time today and it's looking fabulous. So happy. Isn't this the sweetest room ever? I adore children's books with interior design by animals. via

But besides that, it's a beautiful time of year - always been my favorite. I think it all has to do with that 'back to school' thrill of excitement which, no matter how old we get, we never seem to shake. And that's a good thing, I think. Vintage Little Golden Book - source
Inspired by this post, I thought I would go through all of the children's books I have in the Autumn book basket right now and pull out the ones that feature canning. I was amazed at how many there were! I have tried to find the ones in my inspiration list at the library, but alas, aside from the two I own (Blueberries for Sal and Autumn Story) I wasn't able to find the others on short notice. (I reserved them from a neighboring library though. Gotta love library share!) Notice that many of these books also feature apples. We are on a apple kick in this house right now. We have several more apple books that have recipes in them as well... however, those are for pie and not for applesauce. In with the list I have also included lots of links to our favorite recipes and canning adventures! Enjoy! Here is the list: The Seasons of Arnold's Apple Tree Cider making is a favorite activity around here! We are gearing up to go to our local farm and make cider next weekend as a matter of fact! (2009 cider making. 2008 cider making.) Blueberries for Sal (one of my all time favorite books) My favorite Blueberry Jam recipe (which everyone should try at least once!) Apple Farmer Annie Strawberry Applesauce Cook-a-long Hurry, Hurry, Mary Dear The best apple jelly in the world! Autumn Story And of course, keeping a pantry (and nuts) like a little mouse!
