The dogtrot houses stand as an iconic example of American architecture, weaving a rich tapestry of history into its very structure. Originally emerging as a one-story home and even finding its roots in log cabins, the dogtrot house has evolved into a distinct and recognizable style. What sets it apart is its unique design, conceptualized to harness the power of nature for comfort. The term "dogtrot" refers to a central open-air breezeway that effectively divides the structure into two separate living spaces, allowing for natural ventilation. This innovative design was particularly significant in warmer climates, especially in the southern regions, where wood shake roofs provided shelter from the elements. The dogtrot house ingeniously utilized the open space in the breezeway, capitalizing on the southern porch's exposure to prevailing breezes. This strategic positioning allowed for passive cooling and a reduction in the need for artificial air conditioning, showcasing the functional design tailored for cross breezes and cross ventilation.Traditionally known by various names, the dogtrot house has been referred to as a "dog run," "breezeway house," or even a "passage house." Each moniker reflects the core design principle of the central breezeway that characterizes this architectural gem. The concept of the dogtrot house embodies the marriage of form and function, creating an inviting open space that not only enhances ventilation but also serves as a communal area. As we introduce our 2-bedroom dogtrot plan, featuring an open breezeway and a porch on one side, we celebrate the thoughtful integration of these design elements. In homage to tradition, our design incorporates the essence of the classic trot house while seamlessly accommodating modern living comforts, creating a harmonious blend of heritage and contemporary aesthetics. The dogtrot house floorplan is designed to cater to diverse needs and preferences, offering two distinct versions under one roof, highlighting the versatility in building materials and design choices. Floor Plan The Main House boasts a luxurious master suite, complete with a spacious walk-in closet and a well-appointed bathroom. An adjacent office, which can easily convert into an additional bedroom, features its own bathroom for added convenience. The innovative folding door seamlessly transitions between the office/bedroom and the dining and living areas, allowing you to customize your living space. The U-shaped kitchen is a chef's dream, equipped with all the amenities you need. A pantry provides ample storage for your culinary essentials. Step onto the breezeway deck, which serves as an inviting outdoor dining area, where you can savor the outdoors while staying sheltered from the elements. The decking extends from the front to the back, connecting both spaces seamlessly. Additionally, you have the option to choose a connected secondary structure, which can serve as a 2-car garage or a fully functional ADU (Accessory Dwelling Unit) with extra living spaces and another bedroom. 2-Bedroom House with Garage: This version is ideal for those who prioritize vehicle storage or need additional space for hobbies and projects. The garage is conveniently attached to the house, providing easy access and added security. 2-Bedroom House with Guest Suite: Specifically designed for hospitality, this iteration swaps out the garage for a cozy guest suite. Ideal for hosting friends and family, the added guest suite ensures their comfort and privacy throughout their stay. Additionally, it offers the convenience of two separate living areas, enhancing the overall versatility of the space. Both versions maintain the core design of a 2-bedroom house, ensuring a cozy and practical living space. Each layout is thoughtfully designed to maximize functionality and aesthetic appeal, making them suitable for a wide range of lifestyles. Interior Natural light floods the interiors through glass sliding doors in the dining and living areas, as well as the master suite, offering breathtaking views of the surrounding natural beauty. Our interiors are highly customizable, allowing you to create a space that reflects your unique style. Choose between polished concrete floors or warm wooden planks to suit your taste. We recommend a light-toned interior to enhance the sense of space and cleanliness. The vaulted ceiling adds an airy and spacious feel to the interiors, ensuring a comfortable and inviting atmosphere. Exterior The exterior design is a testament to timeless elegance and versatility. Whether placed in a rural or urban setting, this house plan seamlessly blends with its surroundings. The sleek standing metal seam siding and roofing, combined with natural wood textures on the decking, entryway, and breezeway, exude a modern yet welcoming charm. Design with FRANK's signature style is reflected in every detail of the exterior, making it a perfect addition to any property.Experience the perfect fusion of contemporary design and the serenity of nature with our 2 BD Dogtrot House Plan.
