Paige Chenault loved working as a wedding planner. "I loved being part of people's most sacred celebrations—being able to see the joy that comes from feeling celebrated," she tells Glamour. But after she read a heart-wrenching article while pregnant with her own child, Chenault realized she had another calling. "I read about children in Haiti who were struggling to survive," she recalls, "and I realized that the sunken-eyed child in the magazine staring back at me would never feel celebrated the way I knew I could celebrate my daughter." In that moment, the Birthday Party Project—a nonprofit organization that partners with homeless shelters to throw birthday celebrations for children—was born. "That's literally the moment a fire lit inside of me—truly a burning feeling in my stomach, and a voice that reassured me I had found my purpose in life," describes Chenault. "I was going to celebrate the lives of children that needed it most. I was going to throw birthdays for homeless children." Chenault launched the Birthday Party Project in 2012, and has thrown more than 1,800 birthday bashes—complete with activities, crafts, decorations, games, cupcakes, party favors, and presents—for more than 15,000 homeless children in eight cities. Here, Chenault
